Popped in here last monday and picked up some japanese green tea (about 13euro for 100g).

been enjoying it the past few days and it can be reused for another cup right after if you wish.

They have the largest selection of teas around and to quote -

"Tea is a bit like wine as there is more to it whereas coffee is a bit more like beer"

now i know most here would not agree with that but its the best place i have been if you want to sample amazing tea.

I never really took to tea. I don't mind the odd green tea (eg when in Yammamori) but generally it all justs tastes like warm weakly flavoured water to me :pac: :pac: :pac:

Right, I think an intervention is called for.

Clowns, and I'm certainly not adverse to good tea.

Go for it. What was that stat you had on George Hook's show regarding wine and coffee, t'was impressive.

Maybe but i would imagine many people would not know or care where or how their coffee is made, roasted or left ground much in the same way most people just think tea is tea (barry's Lyons etc).

Its the purpose of a forum like this thats helped/helping people (me included) to become more discerning about tea and coffee.

Is it a true statement (coffee = beer) obviously no when your coming from this forum but does it make it easier to detail what the shop specializes in when dealing with the joe blogs punter looking for a different cup of cha, absolutely.

Tea AND coffee can be as detailed and layered as you want them to be but how do YOU explain that to the normal punter without getting too technical?

Altough the commercial majority is generally poor, beer can be a complex mix of flavours with a very technical brewing process, the fact that this place is blatently ignorant to even this fact screams volumes about them and their snobbish attitude. Personally, I wouldn't waste my breath on them.

If tea is wine then coffee is champagne!

Ha, whats wrong with beer??? Had an beer aged in oak barrels last night that was full of toffee and vanilla with a really smokey scotch finish. Innis and gunn, it was incredible.

Was only joking about the intervention. Really fascinated by tea too. Matchabar in Powerscourt and House of Tea in CHQ are also really good.

Personally I think Tea is beer, but ale is wine and coffee is tea with beer in it. So to speak

Now that sounds lots better and i must say i am a bigger fan of beer than wine (redmonds in ranelagh being a favourite place to get excellent beers).

    So coffee is bubbly tea??

I think analagies and similies don't really work like this for unique products of taste and opinion.

Went to both Palais Des Thes and House of Tea last week, and between the two places Took home about €70 worth of tea (mostly 50g amounts).

Been making my way through it, enjoying it for the most part quite a bit.

Also got the same quote about beer/wine from the gentleman in Palais Des Thes. I politely disagreed, but didn't want to go OTT on coffee, so left it at that.

Does this qualify as tea porn I wonder:

That's Margaret's Hope First Flush Darjeeling 09, from House of Tea.

I hereby *DARE* Mr. Magnolia to go in there.

I volunteer to video the event in a cowardly fashion. :D

lol, if I was passing I would certainly drop in to make a few purchases.

I wouldn't annoy myself too much over their attitude to coffee, beer or wine. If I wanted to start a campaign, I wouldn't do it there.

I was in this week for the first time. They've a huge range of tea, and the prices are sensible.

isn't €13 for 100gms of green tea a little excessive?

It sure is. But then again I saw a "cake" of tea for £15,000 in Harrod's last weekend and it was only 1 kilo I think! Puts things in perspective...

It depends. I do know that they do good black Indian and Ceylon teas for as little as €5 per 100g, and that seems reasonable to me.
