Dunnes Bishopstown Court have further reduced the price of the Fujitsu laptop V5535 with dual-core Pentium, 2g ram, 160G drive, 15.4 inch screen etc - was 499 then 399 and now 339! Seemed to have quite a few. It is still showing as 399 in Carrigaline so it's probably worth checking at the till.

By the way - for some odd reason another Fujistu model on the shelf with only 1G RAM and a Centrino processor was €399

If it had a camera I would bite.... but it doesn't....

I wonder if by Christmas €299 is going to be the new "entry level" price for laptops, and maybe €199 or €149 the entry level price for netbooks? Interesting times..... :-)

(I was there yesterday Wed to pick up a couple of the Verbatim USB disks)

(sorry - thought I had posted this last night - but it disappeared?)

Anyone bought this laptop? I see its mentioned as 'no modem' (I think no built in router!?) and 'no battery' (I am not sure what this means). except these 2 things in question, the laptop looks worth a price.
I need to buy one so any suggesstions / experience with this model laptop would be appriciated.

If you can provide us a link, us tech savvy folks can give you an opinion on it. But generally, in my limited experience; laptops at that price should be avoided like a plague.

The specs are not too bad for the price :

    Thanks Sioda,

I was on my way to get one of those tonight.
The mother in law is looking for something cheap to trawl the net and do simple packages. Thought that might be worth it.

the best thing about these laptops is that they come with Vista Buisness and a handy little downgrade disc that erases Vista and installs XP Pro with all the drivers loaded in one single 20 minute job from start to finish

I have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 7300 from 3 years back (from Dunnes) - the specs were never very exciting but it's been a rock-solid machine -no probs with keyboard, bits falling off, drivers were available when I needed them etc. For €330 your Mother-in-Law could hardly do better - even if her daughter had to settle for second-best........:)

For purely web browsing and Skype etc maybe the netbooks at 299 might be better - they are also nice and slim/light - as long as she can read smaller screens/text sizes - that starts to be a selling point for anyone over 45...

I worked for a place that bought fujitsu siemens laptops, and almost every one gave trouble in the first couple of months. Wouldn't urinate on them if they were on fire.. the risk of burns would be too great, and that would be really sore. Oh, and I hate them. That was 4 years ago, though, maybe something changed.

I have had 2 fujitsu siemens scalo computers and 2 fujitsu siemens laptops, found them great.

No probs, the computer is now 9 years old and upgraded and working fine.

Same with 1 of the laptops which is used as a media center and the other has survived a right bashing.

I rolled over the software discs for the computer and fujitsu siemens, found them grand to deal with.

Wow at that price its a steal. Especially as you have the option of rolling back to Xp from Vista business which would give this computer a nice speed.

    What?
    What processor was that laptop?

The Dunnes stores laptop is a complete bargain at 339!

And would be suitable for any regular user
