Collected money question

    Am I in trouble?

*I hope its Ok to post this as I'm making sure not to mention people or places here, as I don't want to get people involved if I'm in the wrong and just panicking a bit.

For the last 6 or so months or so months I have being working with a charity in collecting money for a young girl, we've made a few thousand with events (which they have more or less left me to organise) and all until very recently seemed well.

Though during the week I discovered the the charity name and company identity that we have being working under is not registered in any way and that the monies raised is being kept in one of the main organisers personal account.

When I brought the issue up (as I wanted to see proof that the money had actually gone to the girl) I was given a washy story about the girl no longer being in hospital so the money raised could be used to create an entirely new “not for profit” business that would be used to help the girl and other people in her position, as she wasn't just a girl but a symbol.

I have a serious issue with all this, as:
So far we've raised money under a business title that does not exist.
The main organiser will not provide proof of what he has or is doing with the money.
She wasnt a "symbol" when I was raising the money. She was a girl - and my effort has being towards her.
The money is in their personal account. (well hopefully still in there!)
When I brought the issue up as being possibly illegal I got a story of how I'm young and idealistic and that they have no plans to register the company.
They will be going ahead with new events later in the month anyway's.
I am being told that I should not be trying to force the issue as it wont work...

I'm quite worried that all my good intentions and hard work here is going to be not only for waste but abuse and I've more or less organised most of the events and contacted the people who were coming, so its my name and details involved rather then those with the money....

I feel along with I've being utterly conned. What would a person like myself have to do here?

Thank you so much, as I'm more then worried!

    R.

Make a complaint to the garda.

If you are worried about being implicated, talk to a solicitor.

Go to a solicitor, then the Gardai.
