What's the situation regarding DIY respraying at the moment?

I used 2 pack a while back, I believe this stuff has now been tossed in favour of water based paints,

How are we affected in terms of guys that want to do their own painting?

Can water based paint be used by the DIY type guy, or does it require booths to dry, etc?

it it a vintage car uou are working on ?
if so you can still use acrylic .
waterbased is next to impossible to get right in a diy setup

You can still buy 2 pack over the counter in the UK no problem but it's illegal to use it here of course, waterbased is ****e to use here and you can't match all the colours because of some of the tinters, plus it takes for ever to dry unless you've got ideal conditions. The best advice is to get 2 pack and tell nobody what your doing!!! (they'll post it to you in a couple of days)

You can still buy 2 pack here in Ireland over the counter. Just ask for it in your local motor factors. It can't be too illegal, they're still openly selling it...

High solids paint (solid colour) is available alright but not metallics, sorry I should have been clearer on that.

It is illegal to sell any 2k isocinate based paint, any factor that sells it is just getting rid of old stock that is stored away from the premisis. It won't last too much longer. The factors near me will supply you with 2K the next day after ordering. In the not so distant future you will need a trade permit to purchase paint.

I second this comment, with first hand experience.

The motorfactors should take the name and adresses of the purchasers already. Just in case that CoCo will enquire about waste management.
Seriously, like, any one who is using paints of any sort should have some waste management/disposal plan in place.

Using of 2pack paints is not illegal.
The law is bit too complicated, for example you can use celulose paints for paintbrush application, but it's illegal to use it in your spray gun...

2 packs are here and will stay here, they are being re-placed with waterbased, that's true, but you can't replace some special paints like basecoats, direct to metal primers, high build primers, spray fillers, high build clear coats, flake- pearl carriers and so on.
Water based paint just simply will not work here.
