    And another...

    http://www.carsforsaleireland.ie/used-cars/detail/1973-Ford-Escort-Galway-Classic+car---29243/

The guts of Eight Grand for a four door faux Mexico?

My trip into the classic car selling world leads me to think there are many out there still in denial... like the guys trying to sell '80's 4.0 litre Jags, on UK plates for E1,000?

    Crazy buggers IMHO :P

Question, what pre '79 can be bought for reasonable money (>3K) that would withstand an 8,000 mile per year commute over sh*te roads with minimum (ie reasonable) maintenance, and mid thirtys in terms of MPG?

Preferably German but open to suggestions.

    Serious Question BTW.

It turns 30 so it becomes pricy but too pricy. Not a bad car car to have as classic and vey handy for European driving holidays being a left hooker. Just a bit too dear.

Consider a Volvo 'Amazon' 120 series.

..........there on of these for sale on adverts, posted here a few days back, its in Dublin too and should be in budget. I'd look for a Merc though, purely for durability.

I thought the OP said the Audi was for sale for a grand, not four grand, and I kinda thought it could be worth that.

    €4K !!! Dream on !

The one posted here a few days ago is in Athlone. If I had the cash to spare at the moment I'd be tempted by it :)

€4000 is an insult unless its in top condition with very low mileage, what he is offering costs about 1000-1500 in Germany, that one seems to be on foreign plates too.

RE, old commuting car, a W115 Merc, diesel, better still an auto if you can get them, had 2 when I lived in Germany and easily the best you can get, or if you can find one a 240D Pullman (4 not 6 door). Had a couple of W123s as well but I prefer the W115.

Shame about that white Audi in Kenmare, always loves the Avant version of them.

    Serious Question BTW.

    Options:

    1. Mk 4 Cortina: Will easily get the job done, the only problem is finding a good one for sensible money, lots of chancers out there.

    2. Hillmain Avenger: Does everything the Cortina does, but a little bit rarer.

    3. Austin Princess: Will easily soak up the sh*te roads and is quite luxurious, but watch that iffy BL build quality.

    4. Peugeot 504: Tough as nails, a good buy if you can find one.

    5. Datsun Laurel: Very competent, very underrated but also very, very rare.

See? No need to go German! :D
