Backlight gone I think - will I be able to fix this myself?

Hi,
I have an acer laptop here and the screen was stood on a few months back causing the lcd to be replaced. I replaced the screen myself and now a few months later I have a different problem. When you turn it on the screen is really dark.

If you look hard you can see windows loading etc. leading me to believe it could be the backlight or is there anything else that could cause a symptom like this?

The replaced LCD screen I installed is a different manufacturer to the OEM one - does this mean a different backlight will be required or are they generic?

Could also be the inverter. If (by a long shot) ya still have your old screen and that on lit up you could try and reinstall that. It will tell you weather the backlight or inverter is gone.

Edit: just checked your link. I wouldn't bother replaceing the backlight. Just replace the LCD again if that is the problem. Replacing backlights is tricky abd generally you'll end up breaking a bulb. My opinion.
