    §hite.

when i turn on my imac now the mouse (bluetooth mighty mouse) or aluminum usb keyboard wont work... it appears that the USB system must be blown or something.

i have used screen share from my macbook and can control the imac just fine. when i go to About this mac - More info and click USB it says "no information found". when i also go to Bluetooth it says the same.

also, the bluetooth system prefs panel is missing.

i have read up a bit now tonight and it says a PRAM reset may work... but i cant do that because the keyboard wont work!

does anybody know any ways/tips that might help me out?!

    cheers
    adam

Have you tried disconnecting everything from the Mac and unplugging it from the mains and leaving it for a few minutes? Maybe power cycling a few times, testing each port with just one device to see if it works.

Have you installed any RAM recently? Might be worth taking them out and re-securing them. Loose or bad RAM can cause all manner of crazy problems.

I don't know what else to suggest. It might be the logic board. How old is the iMac?

    hi, thanks sad prof

the imac is about 14 months old now and i dont have applecare.

yeah i've done the whole disconnecting thing, i'll try it again though. yes, i've unplugged everything and just hooked up usb keyboard & usb mouse and still nothing.

somebody suggested reinstalling the latest upgrade (10.5.6) so im doing that now.

havent installed RAM recently but i'll check them anyway.

in fairness, i was doing a good bit of shifting it around yesterday and tidying up the cables at he back of it.. but it worked fine last night after all that... just when i tried to turn it on today is when the problems started.

anyway, i'll give those suggestions a bash now

    cheers

Well, at least it's not too much over the 12 months. If it is a hardware failure you could still go after Apple, with or without a warranty.

This would make me wonder if perhaps the movement caused one of the RAM chips to become loose. Is all the RAM being recognised in System Profiler? Are you able to run Rember/Memtest?

I don't know if RAM can cause this type of problem but it's worth a shot.

    SORTED!!

reinstalled 10.5.6 and everything is back to normal! yes, the RAM was fine insofar as appearing in sys profiler

    cheers

Glad you got it fixed, moe. :)

I know from experience these kinda problems are scary, even if they are only momentary.

I wonder what caused it. Did you install or change anything software related recently?

ah here, i thought i was in for a new logic board haha!!

well this is it, how'd it happen in the first place... methinks a certain person in the house had been messing and done something but was keeping quiet unless it was gonna cost money to fix! i have my suspicions!

    thanks again
