    Hi,

As the title suggests im looking for a snazzy suit (for a wedding) with bootcut trousers. Anyone know the best place to buy. Im in Limerick but regurlarly visit Dublin and Cork so anywhere really.

I was thinking of something along the lines of a navy suit with a light pinstripe maybe? Im a medium build if that makes any difference.
Any ideas of shirt/tie colour combos would be great too. Pictures would be ace too

    Cheers folks

Assuming you want to wear boots with the sure, they generally don't go that well together.

    Boots no, but shoes yes!

Just hate the tapered trouser look

Most suits will have a leg wide enough for ankle boots (assuming a leather boot rather then some kinda hiking or trainer type boot).
Is the suit to be a once off thing for you or are you thinking about wearing it on other occasions? The navy pinstripe will be will become an OK interview/business/work suit after the wedding. However, for a wedding I personally think the navy pinstripe is wrong and I would look for something less business like and more casual/evening. A grey check might be an option, or a lightweight blue linen suit.
What price range are we talking about here? Remember to allow for shirt, tie and matching pocket square (for the snazzy touch), cufflinks depending on the shirt, new belt to match the shoes...
You will find suits around for as little as €100 but you get what you pay for.
Try Burtons for off the rail, lower price range suits.

I understand the attraction of boot cut suits and have had a few in my time. I have size 12 feet so having an extra bit of cloth around the bottom was a good thing! The style now is very much skinny leg, which is fair enough, but bootcut can look nice (I'm not sure OP is referring to wearing the suit with boots).

Remus Uomo used to have a boot cut suit, in fact I think they still do, you can get them in Arnotts and loads of different places. Also Jeff Banks have a bootcut suit, available in Debenhams. I'm not sure if either are still doing it but its somewhere to start. Its harder to find though. Maybe Google search, and you can tailor the suit when you get it?

Strongly advise against a boot-cut suit. Good shoes and good tailoring would be a far better long-term investment.

Recommend instead a trouser with a straightish leg (i.e. not too tapered at the ankle) and get the leg opening tailored with a slant towards the heel.

Most shops here do one of two things: a) they send the buyer away with a suit that is clearly too long in the leg, leading to "puddling" around the ankle; or b) they take up the ends but do it in a straight line, so either the front or back is wrong. A good tailor can put in a slant so the back touches the top of the heel and the front has just a slight break over your shoes.

Hope this is of some help.

Here's what boot cut trousers look like. Pretty cool. I'm looking for a place that has them here in the states. Good luck to you.

My question is: why is the selection of trouser types in shops so limited in Ireland? The type I like are generally straight leg with a good wide hem (not boot cut though!), and not crotch tight. I wonder if there are any tailors (around Dublin) that can make trousers without me having to pay the sun, moon and stars in order to them made?

While I'm here, another question: why do some men seem to think it's so cool to wear their trousers so short hemmed (like up around the ankles or near enough). As a man, let me give some advise - they look bloody awful, especially when walking - some actually look like bags around the legs - maybe the shops should bring back in the half length trousers and knee socks (what golfers sometimes wear) - well they'd look a lot better I can assure you.

IMO however, if a man wants a formal length, the length setting is when the back of the trouser leg reaches down to the back sole of the shoe (give or take approx 1cm depending on hem width etc). If the trousers do fold too much around the shoes, maybe they're too narrow hemmed - one could look into making a slight split at the bottom of the seams (I've seen one or two golfers with same) - another solution is the have (as someone here suggested) the hem tapered upwards from the back towards the front. I however, try to get a widest hem available given the limited choice that men have in fashions generally - the deplorable choice for mens fashions might be something for the EU to look into on the grounds of gender discrimination and distorted competition?

BTW, skinny legged trousers (drain pipes) are a no no for me!!!

    Regards!
