You'll pick up a linksys wrt54 on ebay for around €20-30

These are firmware upgradeable (have a look at www.dd-wrt.com) and are very reliable.

If you're thinking of acquiring one on ebay, just check what the serial number is so you can see which version of the firmware it will upgrade to....also, just check that the seal on the bottom hasnt been broken (evidence that it's been looked at inside which isnt really a good sign).

What type of broadband are you going to get? If you get dsl (bb over the phone) most isps supply a wireless router.

There is no point in getting an N router unless your laptop has an n wireless card otherwise you will not get the benefits of the N standard.

you can't just buy any old one though, they're not all upgradeable, and those that ARE, aren't all upgradable to the same level.

the wikipedia page for the wrt54g has all theinfo you need on which ones are compatible with which 3rd party firmwares.

Good point, Vibe. The WRT54 wiki is well worth a read.
