Where to rent a marantz?

Mods feel free to move this, I just was not sure where to post it and thought as it was a recording device I would start with people who use recording devices reguarly.

I am trying to rent a digital portable marantz recorder for a week and was wondering if anyone knew somewhere that might do it. I am making a radio doc and was let down badly by someone who was due to lend me one and I am now chasing my tail trying to get one for Saturday.

If anyone knows of anything any and all help would be greatly greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

May be the sort of thing Sensible Music do...

Sensible have a Fostex PD4 timecode dat recorder, excellent machine but a bit of a bugger to work. They might have upgraded since. Big Bear have a more modern machine. I'm sure it doesn't specifically have to be a Marantz.

For Radio Doc. a Mini disc recorder would be suitable. Perfectly adequate for voice recording anyway. There's also the option of using one of the new Zoom or Olympus hand held recorders that I've seen a few people with.

For hire though Sensible or Big Bear would be your man. Though it will be nearly as expensive as buying a cheaper hand held recorder that goes straight to SD card and transfer via USB.

I'd say he wants the Marantz though because they are the defacto. All the reporters have them. The PMD600 series.
Have you tried any of the AV hire companies?

Ah! I brought one of those to Morocco last year, not a bad little machine, handy. It doesn't like percussion though.

It was hired from a UK AV hire crew, cost a bloody arm and a leg for the week, glad I wasn't paying. It's a sturdy enough little thing which is why I suppose you see them used so often. I don't think it really matters what the source material is recorded on though and I certainly wouldn't go to the trouble of paying €25 or €30 euro a day, we paid much more. When you can buy a Zoom H4 for €300.

A lot of the regional and college stations are using the Zooms, H2 is more common cos it's cheap. They sound good with internal mic. Instant transfer to edit machine, and as easy/ fiddly as the MD recorders that used to be "standard".

Yeah dead right, does not have to be a marantz. Do you honestly think a standard minidisc recorder would be ok? I can get a Sony one handy enough so if thats cool thats what Ill go for. Rental prices do seem to be a bit much from the above companies alright.

Was just concerned about the warmth of the recording but I suppose that can be compensated for in Cubase in the editing process yeah?

The "warmth" is 90% mic and positioning/ room acoustics.
