Seeing the positive reaction to Davys hunting knife thread I thought you might like to have a look at something I just finished

It changed design a few times as it got worked, the general shape was inspired by a knife I saw in "Knives 94" made by Chris Peterson page 214 if anyone has it

    Here's mine

It's 170mm overall, 70mm blade, 6mm O1, NS bolsters, Ebony scales and weighs in at 200g
The grinding on the blade was mainly done with a 4" grinder, Tormek wet wheel grinder, dremel (type tool) and slip stones with oil.
Quite a few **** ups like dropping the blade and taking a nick out of it.
I'm hoping to make it my EDC for work when I get the leather work done.

Fine job there Sir. Very impressed. What grade steel did you use for the blade? And what other metal did you use on the handel? Aluminium?

Very comfortable looking fit, for the hand. Any idea on the man hours put into making it?

    Enjoy it;)

    Thanks for the comments.
The steel is O1 tool steel it's not stainless so it will rust if it's not taken care of it's easier to work with then stainless and some people say it holds a better edge (don't know about that) the bolsters on the handle a Nickel Silver (NS) they're held on with peened NS bar 3mm. I didn't want to bring the blade and handle up to a high polish as I plan to use this knife and a mat finish is a little more forgiving:D
Man hours, I'd say a few days maybe a week but that's making do with the tools I have and the fact that it's designed as you go to a certain degree.
The fit is nice but that's the joy of making your own knives for yourself they always fit your hand :D

I'm looking for something around 3mm layered up to make a horizontal sheath, not having much luck finding any leather supplier here, found a pretty good English web supplier.

-ish I'd say. half decent renaissance fencer, just picking up longsword (Fiore). And terribly rusty and out of shape.

Swinging that around would get you into shape pretty fast

Lovely looking knife all right. A workmate of mine made one out of an old cutting bar from a Tetra - pak machine, - 5" blade. Used a leather belt held with copper rivets for the sheath.

That's great! pretty much any tool grade steel will make a good blade given the right treatment, saw blades (circular saw), files, plough blades. It doesn't have to be expensive, some steel won't hold an edge like mild steel. I'd say the tetra pak blade would have been perfect.
