I am currently using a Demo version of Channel Strip by Metric Halo. It's not specifically for vocals, it does a bit of everything. sounds really nice. There are a couple of presets for vocals though.

I would love to try some of the Waves or Sonnox plug ins but they are out of my price bracket.

My sort of default plug-in chain for vocals would be
    UAD LA2A - UAD Cambridge EQ - Waves De-esser

I'll normally have a few sends as well:

UAD Plate140, PSP 84, Waves Multi-Tap, UAD Roland 201 Space Echo.

However, there is no silver bullit it changes for the singer.

The uaudio LA2A is a great compressor for vocals - you can really squash things but it still sounds natural. The UAD 1176 if you are looking for something more aggresive and punchy and like basically any american rock record in the last 20 years!

I sometimes use a MCDSP Analog Channel as well to smooth things out.

EQ can change based on singer. Cambridge does what I need it to do most of the time. Although I will use what ever needs to be used to make something sit.

Waves stuff is not bad if bit on the expensive side (I really don't like that you have to pay an annual "update fee" when you have already paid $1000 on the plugins).

The uaudio stuff needs a UAD card unfortunately but it is well worth it (you can pick UAD1 cards fairly cheap now that UAD2 is out). They have the added bonus of taking the load of your CPU.

For tuning (although dreaded - often needed) I use melodyne, it's straight forward enough to use and if you don't overdo it you can get pretty natural results. Of course melodyne also allows you to do mental things if you want tuning things up or down octaves or the "Cher" effect.

    Hope this helps

The waves diamond 6 upgrade for 200 although unfair and over priced still looks very appetising to a you feline like me. You get a a brand new compressor and delay plug in and loads of other stuff.
