I'll be leaving Tallaght Hospital (AMNCH) about 4pm this Friday aiming to get to the M4 towards Athlone.

Anybody know about how long the journey will take on the M50? Is there a quicker alternative route?

I might get the train instead - how long does it take to get into Heuston on the luas?

If you leave Tallaght Hospital at 4pm you should be in Heuston by 4:40pm.

If you are driving, then you could take the new outer relief road from Tallaght to Lucan. I've never been on this road at 4pm Friday, so cannot suggest how long it will take. It will take you out just past the Foxhunter pub on the N4.

M50-N4 can be great, can be hell, listen to DCAL on 103.2 (I think), best traffic programme from 4-7 every evening, (and 7-10 every morning).

On a couple of bank holiday Fridays i went Belgard road to Newlands cross, N7 to Naas, then through Sallins and Clane to Kilcock, saved a huge amount of time every time.

I live near the relief road and certainly would recommend it as probably a quicker route. You can either take the Belgard Road to the N7 interchange and then come of the N7 at the Grange Castle exit - then head towards lucan until you see the sign for the N4 - if you get to Woodies you've gone to far

or probably not as congested go onto the N81 heading towards Jobstown, go right on the Cheeverstown Road which now links on to the outer ring road and head towards Lucan and the N4 as above.

This would be the best way IMO.
Once the person hits the N4, there will be a bit of a delay getting past the Spa Hotel but after that, onto the M4
