    Tricky one......

I became unemployed in July 2004 and did not approach the dole until October 2004.

I got back pay, primarily on the grounds that I was utterly ignorant of how the system worked.

Try and tell them that you just dont know how it works and it might be back dated, at least partially.

It would probably be pretty difficult to get it backdated, but you could try.

At least go in ASAP now.

I became unemployed (through my own choice, i decided to hand my notice in) in mid-Feb. Stupidly thought I would find a job in a matter of weeks so didn't sign on, just used my savings. Well my money was beginning to run out so signed on the start of April- got a letter last week saying i'd been processed.

As I'd left my last job through my own choice, generally you don't get paid JSA for 9 weeks but the letter said I was being backdated the full amount of time so brilliant news for me. Don't know about 10 months though.

The most it can be backdated is 6 months I think, no longer.

Most it can be backdated is 6months.

if i were you id bring in the details of all the jobs you apllied for, its totally the deciding officers decison, if they think you were genuinly seeking work you've a better chance.
