Missing Year after graduation

    I Graduated in may 08 went to America for the summer came back in September began looking for work, few months looking,

    ended up getting two jobs in a week, just before Christmas, so naturally I choose what i thought was the best of the two (software
    development as opposed to testing).

    Only problem is the company said we need to get confirmation from business personal in the states before we can offer you a

    contract and start work and should take a few weeks, so while we are waiting for that we'll continue with a background check to get

    the whole thing moving. Done that, so a few weeks passed of which i was updated pretty regularly about the situation saying they

    had a slow down in approvals getting approved given the current economic situation and decisions would be delayed for another

    month which turned into another month which about 3 weeks ago turned in July, August and that it would probably be better if i got

    work somewhere else to fill the gap and they would come back at the time with the offer. Now I'm back looking for work and wonder

    should i tell every company I'm applying for this big sob story about why I've nothing for a year or will they just think I'm talking the

    piss?

    Also do you guys think i should just give up on this company ever given me a job?
