No, have you? I try to avoid those kinds of books.

Not me. Those particular waters have been muddied beyond hope as far as I'm concerned. The typical m.o. involves reading current events into what are highly figurative passages of scripture so as to arrive at the conclusion that the end of the world is nigh.

Then there's this kind of thing - which I hope Patrick doesn't engage in

    From: "2008: Gods Last Witness"

"By the fall of 2008, the US will have collapsed as a world power, or will have begun it's collapse and no longer exist as an independant nation within 6 months after that time"

I agree. I got on the mailing list for a monthly magazine, I think it was called the Trumpet, if I remember correctly, it was sent from America anyway. It was presented as current affairs, world issues etc. from a Christian perspective.

tbh it scared/scarred me, deeply. There was everything in there, from the Pope being the anti-Christ, to 'evidence' that Britain and America are the lost tribes of Israel, and as such the wars are justified by God, to the most recurring theme throughout each monthly mag that Germany was the root of all evil, and the Germans were all waiting for their chance to go on the road to conquest again and are scheming to finally beat America and Britain in World War III, which of course is always just around the corner.
It was amazing how current events and even natural disasters could be woven into this hate filled rag, so well written, and with such conviction.

    http://www.thetrumpet.com/index.php?q=6057.0.114.0 for example.

These kinds of prophecies, linked to current events imo offer little to the faithful.

Have we forgotten? Do we even remember what America and Britain declared after World War ii?
“It is our inflexible purpose to destroy German militarism and Nazism and to ensure that Germany will never again be able to disturb the peace of the world,” Winston Churchill wrote in a signed document with Franklin Roosevelt.
The world may have forgotten, but we did not. What is happening in Europe now is what we have been prophesying for over 60 years! Request our free booklet Germany and the Holy Roman Empire. All of our literature is free.
If the Germans were really repentant for causing so many of our past wars, they would not dare make other European nations utterly dependent upon them for their livelihood.
    The German Election
You need to watch the September 27 election this year in Germany. It could very well produce the political leader of the Holy Roman Empire—and through devious means. The Bible prophesies that this man will come to power with deceit and flatteries.
