screwed by my AIL club(tickets)

i just need some advice from people really dont know how to handle this situation.
i am a member of a famous rugby club in ireland. i applied for tickets for the six nations which where twinned with the autumn internationals.(a process for ensuring that tickets are sold out for the autumn internationals(friendlies) as demand is not as high as for the six nations) i applied for 4 tickets. i received 2 tickets for the autumn games. not a problem with that. the problems occured when i only received 1 ticket for each of the six nations games. this didnt seem right as on the order form you coundnt by them separetly you had to by them as a package or twinned. i rang up the irfu and they couldnt believe what had happened, and told me to contact my club imediately. never mentioned my clubs name.

i rang up my club and the person invloved in ticket allocation. he told me i was wrong that the tickets where never mine and the club could sell them what ever way they liked. i then told him i had rang up the irfu and they had told me that i was entitled to the other half of my twinned tickets. he told me i was wrong i told him i was going on what the irfu told me.

i let it slip thought i would forget about it. i also applied for tickets for the murrayfield game in scotland at the start of the season with money up front in septeber. then i receive a letter from my club in jan telling me i did not get them. however one of my friends had rang up the club in mid january inquiring if there where any tickets for the scotland game to be sold. he was told they had six down i the club that no one wanted. he bought them. it seemed to me as if they thought screw this guy who complained about the home six nations game.

i then rang the club again explained about the scot tickets and how my friend had got 6 of them with no pre-payment and no ordering. i had done both and received no tickets. then the club official lost the plot at me ( when he realised he had been caught) called me a liar, told me i should find a new club for next season. i told him i would ring my friend and confirm all this info and ring him back immediatley did this and the club official turned his phone off.

i also sent emails to the chairman of the club who ignored me. i know he read the emails as the club official mentioned info i said in the emails. since then i have spoke to a family friend who is involved in law. he told me what they have done is completely illegal in contract law. if i had told him about it at the time he could have demanded the tickets and placed an injunction to ensure i recieved them.

i used to like my club but the way i have been treated i feel completely screwed any advice on what to do anyone???????

    any suggestions would be helpful

Not a great state of affairs at all and a disgraceful way to treat a member.

One question though, is why didn't you address this issue with the ticket coordinator first before going to the IRFU? Clearly he was put on the defensive by your action, but he should have been given the opportunity to put it right before going to the Union.

I reckon the next step now is to contact someone in your branch.

Did you get your money back for the up-front payment on the Scotland tickets?

Can I take it you'll be leaving the club?

i went to the irfu first as i didnt want to ring up the club complaining about something they where entitled to do, i asked the club official about it first then he told me the club where within there rights to do wat they did, then i told him that i rang the irfu(without mentioning the clubs name to protect the club) and they told me that my club was in the wrong.

i certainly will not be playing for them next year

still have not been refunded my money and i gave it to them in september. i ordered 18 tickets in september gave the club a cheque, received 6 tickets( 2 for each of the autumn internationals and 1 for each of the six nations) i am owed over a thousand euro have asked for it 3 times only to recieve a very vague response.

to be honest i think i am going to make an official complaint to the IRFU

Could you take them to the small claims court?

It's terrible the way your club are treating you, once you get your money out of them I'd say good riddance to bad rubbish.

I'd be considering a solicitor's letter at the very least now. That's a lot of money to be owed.

You can be sure if it was the other way around that there are forms of sanction the club could use on you!

Just be mindful of the fact that if you do elect to change club, they could play silly buggers with your transfer paperwork too.
