Paid Deposit - Going in to Collect - Checklist

    Hi All,

    Some basic questions -

Have put down a deposit on an S-MAX ( yes I'm old and have kids+dogs, pity me :( ).

I'm due to collect it tomorrow - what should I expect to receive from the dealer. The Dealer is Ford and gives 12 months warranty + 12 AA Assistance.

    Here's what I have so far on my checklist;

:: The Keys and Car :)
:: The Log book / Cert (do they do these still)
:: A Motorcheck report (part of the ford deal)

Last question is how should I pay - Is a bankers draft the safest / best way??

    Thanks Velcrow

Is the car new or second-hand, that will affect what paperwork you're given.
You'll get the RF100 (to tax the car) if it's new. You'll sign the VLC (new version of logbook) and they'll send it off if it's second-hand.

Dealer will probably insist on a draft - you need to contact them directly to confirm this.

Edit: if you're getting a motorcheck report, it must be secondhand.

If you were collecting a car from me you'd get:
    Car
Full set of keys, owners manuals, service book etc.
Half tank of fuel & full set of floor mats
Photocopy of completed VLC that I'm posting that day (or RF 100 if new)
Fresh SIMI order form that shows the latest mileage from the new car and from the trade-in

    I think that's about it...

You'd also sign an RF105 to transfer the ownership of your trade-in to our dealership.

    Thanks AudiChris

    Its a second-hand 2007 S-Max -

Looked up about the VLC - does it matter who signs for insurance reasons - e.g. my wife will be the main driver of the car. Does it makes sense for her to sign the VLC?

    Thanks Velcrow

Also check there is a compressor and can of tyre weld in the car - pretty sure these don't come with a spare and you don't want to find out these are missing when you're stuck at the side of a dark, wet road in the middle of no where.

Make sure there is the 3rd row of seats - some of the early models were available as only 5 seaters (some were taken out after the vehicles arrived as well)

Well, technically, who ever the main driver is, that who should be the registered owner of the vehicle.

+1 on the above points by Chris.

Depending on the AA, you could be made sign and fill out a booklet type thing, stating your name and address etc. etc. for the AA company.

Well, technically, who ever the main driver is, that who should be the registered owner of the vehicle.

In practice, I'd say 25% of VLCs are signed by a person who isn't the main owner of the car. It's not something I would be overly concerned about as long as the signer is acting on behalf of the owner.

Just make sure to take a copy so you can prove the ownership paperwork was filled out.
There are also some scare stories about garages taking months to process changes of ownership, I doubt you'll get caught up in that, but it wouldn't be a bad thing to go online after a few days and check that the ownership's been transferred.

That makes it even more simple.

In a year's time you'll have forgotten the pain of the payment, but you'll still be enjoying the car. Safe motoring Velcrow! :D

This kit should be in a cubbyhole at one of the rear passengers feet. Check for a boot cover: I'm always taking this out of ours, make sure the last owner put it back in. Ask about codes for the stereo.

Get the dealer to stamp the photocopy VLC,
Check there's spare fuses in the fusebox,
Check for alloy key for wheels if they have locknut,

check the seatbelts all close, I got a car once which had the rear seat and centre buckle replaced form a newer but incompatible model

    and wear well

    @ Carawaystick & Zube

Thanks - Will check these before signing anything

@ Limerick man - PM'ed you the price

@ AudiChris - Thanks - the payment pain is still raw but hopefully will improve once I'm behind the wheel

We paid €40K for a 2.0 TDCi Zetec with a Sony upgrade just before the VRT changes in '08, which was sore, but it's the best car we've ever owned.

You're welcome. I hope the S-Max suits your family as well as it does ours.
