    Hi all,

Am looking to get a new laptop, not looking at anything spectacular, something to play some football manager, browse the net, download songs - nothing too crazy. Have found a laptop with the following
    COMPAQ 15.6" TRUE WIDESCREEN LAPTOP.
    AMD 2.1GHZ PROCESSOR.
1GB RAM AND 160GB HARD DISK.
    15.6" BRIGH VIEW WIDESCREEN.
    NVIDIA 8200M GRAPHIC MEMORY.
    5 IN 1 CARD READER.
    SEPERATE NUMERIC KEYPAD.
    HDMI CONNECTION.
    LIGHTSCRIBE 8X DVD+/- RW DRIVE.
    BUILT IN WEBCAM FOR SKYPE.
    6 CELL LITHIUM ION BATTERY.
Am wondering if this is reasonable value at €399.

    Any help would be great.

    Holla,
    Al

This sounds like good value. The 15.6" screens are really nice - you get the separate keypad at the side which you don't get with the 15.4" ones. The only negative point about this machine is the RAM. You really need a minimum of 2GB, but this is easily upgraded. Ask wherever you're buying it if they can do you a deal on a RAM upgrade if you buy the machine - they should do it for another €30 -€40.

It should do what your asking of it.

What OS comes with it. Vista would be a hog on that machine. XP is your friend there. Defo get total of 2 gigs of ram. It will make a nice difference.

Though I would personnally go for a dual core and spent very little more in doing so.

Unfortunately most places will not sell it with XP anymore! :( If you do find somewhere that will sell you this laptop with XP then I would recommend this instead of vista - although service pack 2 has seen some improvements. But apparently Windows 7 is coming out in June, but like Vista I would wait for the service packs to start coming out.

My dads been using Win 7 for a while now (their beta pack). Says its a big step in the right direction after vista. Its not as much a pig on processes as Vista apparently. Looks neat too

Thanks for the advice lads, much appreciated. I took your advice and got the laptop from Powercity - love it so far and the spec is far superior for the extra 50 quid. Cheers for the advice on the sale, saved myself a few bob and got a good machine.

    Thanks again lads!!
