There are quiet a number of cats in the underground car park for apartment complex & they like to sit on the cars. It has never bother ed me as have an old car & even a small scratch won't make any difference. I plan to get a newer car this year so would not like a scratch on that.

Any one know how to keep cats off your car? I have one neighbour puts some plastic water bottles on his car & another has the wipers lifted up.

Mod Edit: In the light of the way this thread has gone, please bear in mind that people are being humorous without using smiley faces!

Blanket with dog smell does the trick.

Bowl with cat food and rat poison mixed in should do the trick.

Why not put superglue on the bonnet and turn them into a nice hood ornament.

Or if you want to be evil, just throw cat food on the car beside yours :pac:

I believe there's various forms of "cat repellent" you might be able to pick up at a pet store, eg. sprays that might help. Just don't know how they might react chemically to the paint.

Though probably illegal, unfortunately, if they belong to someone in the complex. Call the ISPCA first... strays should be 'rehomed'.

Any plug pints in the underground? You could plug in one of those sonic things for keeping animals and the likes away!

Cats are periodically collected & I am told they live out their lives in a cat sanctuary in the West.

TBH I thought for a while kids were messing with one of the cars leaving water bottles on the boot & roof. I can be a bit slow at times...

Cats are not likely to use their claws if the surface won't allow it, is too hard.
You'll probably get little dirty footprints though :D

    Seems it can happen
You can spray citrus/cat repellent on/under car. They don't like the smell.
    Or this

I saw a cat sitting onto one of the neighbours car, and after recently seeing the damage a cat can do, I ran over shouting and waving like a mad man trying to scare the cat off. Smug little bugger just sat there staring at me.

I hate cats, but I'm afraid I've no solution to keep the cat off. Apparently they like the heat from the engine up to the bonnet etc.

    Buy a Nissan Tilda.

I used to use a hose. After around 4 months of this harassment of the cat the cat ended up hating me( i presume ) but kept climbing on my car.

I think that it would be fun to cover your bonnett with double sided tape and watch the cat get very annoyed.

I used to get this with my cat sitting on my bike when I came home. He sits on the seat though, not the tank.

He's too cute to be hushed away, so I leave him there. He used to sit on my neighbours car as well, he was an awful bollox anyway, so I didn't mind. Unless of course when he seen me come in then I'd pick the cat up off his shitty Scirroco and pretend to scold him.

Typical cat owner, and then you'll wonder why, one day he didn't come home ;)

Some nice juicy Whiskas marinated in Roundup Weedkiller is one solution. Leaving the bonnet up when its parked is the other solution.

I'd be going with the first one

I think you need a "how to keep cat on my car" thread ;)

At the moment I don't care about the cats too much as all I see are the paw prints on the windscreen. A certain level of cats keeps rats & mice levels down.

My cat is always sleeping on the bonnet of my car. He never leaves a mark besides the odd footprint. What the hell kind of cats do they have in Limerick? Tigers? :pac:

Careful now - might be the only bit of pussy some of you will ever get :P

Yeah, Ive heard that if they sit on the bonnet it can be quite catastrophic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,418 ✭✭✭Dartz

Sometimes they crawl into the engine. Had a rat do that once in my Laguna, and it made a hell of a mess. I know of at least one cat that met it's end in the fanbelt of a Ford.

Get a large dog off one of your friends... once he catches one he'll "scare the rest away"

Its either that the shot gun or a nine volt battery connected to your bonnet old felix will soon learn !

Yea I don't get this one either, whats the problem.
My cat sat on my car, all she left was muddy paw prints on the bonnet and a huge bloodstain on the windscreen!
