Mobile with SIP client

I am thinking of getting a C905 on 3 (who I dislike) but will only get it if it has the SIP client.

Can anyone recommend any phones that definitely have SIP (on any network). How well does SIP work on a mobile?

    Thanks

As far as I know only Nokia phones (E and N series) have the built in SIP client. But for most phones you can get SIP applications i.e. something like fring.

If you're going to get a phone to use with VoIP, I'd recommend you get one with WiFi

From what I've read the C905 has SIP (and wifi). Have you used the SIP client on the Nokia phones?

Nokia E71 on three with or without bill. Works grand on Wifi, not great to desperate on mobile broadband

It works on 3? Excellent. Is the quality ok? I assume you're using it over Wi-fi?

Yep, wifi and have checked messages by dialing in as well. Quality is grand - really surprised by it. Can be heavy on the battery life, but ideal for travelling. You can make calls from your local Irish voip number anywhere in the world with a wifi-hotspot. But you can turn the wifi and voip on and off as required obviously. GPS is handy too

Probably worth mentioning that it gives you the option to dial voip or mobile call when calling your contacts, and tells you when incoming calls are voip.. So you can call say abroad or landlines with voip, and other mobiles with mobile.

I'm not sure but I think the E51 may have voip too (has wifi anyway) but you would need to check. I just used the nokia installed voip software but you can also use fring (which I haven't needed to try)

Thanks, that sounds really good, pretty much exactly what I'm looking for.

the E51 SIP client is daycent :)

if you want you can even have it connect to your default wifi automatically and have all calls go through it by default. the integration is far better than any 3rd party client could ever hope for
