Mary Harney started the trend. Shes a fashion icon and political style guru.

She turn down the chance to be the next presenter on Xposè!

Mary Harney in an interview with Vogue said the short bob softens her side profile.

And her favourite shampoo is Panten for a super glossy finish.

Michelle Obama's hair isn't short and in that picture Mary Harney's isn't either. I'd consider short to be above the jawline. Although Mary Harney doesn't have a jawline so...*shrug*

In true AH tradition, can I just butt in with a "HURR DURR Mary Harney is fat, lulz"?

Wimmin in power dont have time for fcuking about with long hair and all the hair treatments / styling that comes with it. It's not rocket science

(that, or they're all big, scary lesbians of course)

It's probably because of their age. Very few women over forty seem to have long hair. I think it's more a 'beauty' thing - long hair is aging apparently rather than any attempt to look masculine!

Its a mans world and they feel they need to look masculin to be taken seriously.

    stupid really

Marney Harney only has short hair now cause she's eaten it so short it wont reach to her mouth anymore

Has to be said, she wasn't bad looking when she was young http://www.britsworldwide.org/images/f_thatcher_young.gif

Then she got the face she deserved....

On topic,, I thought the same thing yesterday after seeing Jacqui Smith on the news. All the female MPs here (England) seem to have short hair - I suppose it looks more professional?

Here's another short-hair (with the distinction that I actually would in a heartbeat). Bit of a MILF and certainly easier on the eye than Mary Harney (or anything else in the Dail afaik). Great accent too.

I'd say masculine is the one you're looking for.

Came here to post this. She's about the only doable politician, though there's been some long debates with my friends whether Liz O'Donnell would get it or not.

Having short hair saves these busy people valuable time, other wise they would waste an extra 2.67 hours a week washing , drying, brushing and dieing it FACT !

    or ttestosterone prevents long hair
