Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

george II 1737 irish farthing

    hello there. i have just found a george II 1737 irish farthing in my garden its very black due to being buried in soil for a couple of centuries. has any body got any idea how to clean it up. thanks

    I have no idea if it is rare but I love random finds of this nature :).

    Don't attempt to clean it yourself, it can be very easy to completely remove the design from old coins. Even rubbing the dirt off with your finger can do massive damage.

    I have to agree completely with the previous comment - keep your cleaning to the absolute minimum, say holding the coin under running water and certainly NO abrasives, clearers or anything of that nature. It is part of the value of a coin of that age to look its age.
