Gaggia spare parts

The handle for my Gaggia Classic broke today and I need to get a new one.

Can anyone recommend a shop or website that is likely to stock spares ? I've spent fruitless hours and days before trying to track down shops in Ireland who actually sell spare parts for anything at all but mostly found places that wanted to sell me an entire new <whatever> instead of just the spares, so if anyone knows where to get Gaggia spares it would be cool.

I see from http://www.gaggia.co.uk that they have a shop up in Antrim so I could drop up there if they have them, but if there's anywhere around Dublin that sells them it would save me a few hours drive.

    Thanks,

    z

Try happydonkey.co.uk, Gaggia UK also have an online shop themselves with spare portafilters.

    I'd phone both. ;)

You could try Kenilworth Electrical in Harolds Cross. As far as I know they are the official Gaggia (domestic line) service agents for Ireland. I got a steam valve for my Gaggia there before. I'd say they're worth a shot.

    This what you need?

    http://www.happydonkey.co.uk/hd5003-gaggia-classic-domestic-portafilter.html

I need to buy a filter basket only, if anyone knew where I could get one without having to buy the entire portafilter I would appreciate the info.

I will give that shop in Harolds Cross a ring :) Can check about the handle for you while I am on to them :)

Edit: found the basket on Gaggia UK, OP try there.

Eek, postage is £12 for something that costs £4.49!!! Does anyone need to order Gaggia spares and split the postage cost?

Its €18 for a basket in Kenilworth Electrical, guess it works out at the same thing. OP, sorry, forgot to ask about the handle with the shock on the price of the basket, but they do sell spares.

I rang Gaggia UK (well the shop in Antrim) and they gave me a number for their spare parts department. I rang them but nobody answered. Someone on the switch eventually picked up and took my details but they haven't phoned back since this morning.

I rang Kennilworth Electrical and they said they don't have them in stock. The replacement piece of plastic will cost about €20 when they are back in stock in a few weeks. Eeeeeek . . . €20 for a handle.

I will be in Italy the weekend after next, so I think I may just see if I can get one there.

I had a look at the Happy Donkey site - that's the part I am looking for alright. I may end up getting it from there. It's hard to believe that so few places stock them. I wasn't even able to turn one up on ebay but I may not have been using the correct terminology in the search yesterday. If I do buy the full one I'm sure I could donate my filter basket yokie to "IsThatSo?"

This site has all the parts you could ever need to fix your classic - http://www.partsguru.com/GaggiaClassicCoffee.html I reckon you could build one from scratch with all the bits they have there. Sadly they charge $58 for the portafilter, so I don't think I'll be buying from there. Mind you it's only $14 for the handle, but I wonder how much shiping would be ?

I've emailed Happy Donkey to see if they do the handle only.

p.s. here's the parts diagram with all the items numbered - http://www.commercialjuicersofitaly.com/user/ER0182_Rev01.pdf

I thought Kenilworth were expensive too

I did turn up one filter basket on ebay (never thought to check there till you mentioned it) but it still works out at €16 and I doubt its "real" so would worry about the fit.

I would be better off buying on Gaggia UK, at least I wouldn't have to make the trip to Harolds Cross.

If you do get a full one I would be happy to purchase your basket, it would help defray the cost of your new portafilter :) AFAIK all domestic Gaggias have the same size portafilter.

If you could pm me the phone number of that spare parts dept in Antrim I would appreciate it..........I can check out the price there.

Found the basket on Happydonkey............but can't get shipping info, and it tells me there are no shipping options for my location............:(

Will have to email them too.

Others here have ordered from Happydonkey, how did you format your address in order to continue with the order process? Its stopping me at the shipping and payment bit.

Right, I am going to have to bite the bullet and buy the portafilter. My fingers are getting burned taking the metal part off the machine when it is scalding hot.

There were a few posts on this thread and elsewhere giving out about the shipping for small items. If anyone wants to order something small and split the shipping (and lives/works in/near Dublin) then PM me. Also, the portafilter seems to come with a new double basket, so if anyone needs an old one or other metal parts from a broken portafilter then let me know.

The price from happydonkey.com seems to be high enough, espicially when you add in VAT. I have found the portafilter on DDCoffee also - http://www.coffeexclusive.com - at a lower price. I will check with them to see how much the total cost including shipping would be.

Did you get a price from happydonkey including shipping?
I ordered a bottomless portafilter and a couple of other small items last week and thought the shipping was reasonable.

I'm just waiting on a price from both places, including VAT & shipping. I'll let you know the total.

I am interested in the double basket, let me know how much you would like for it and I will cover postage also if you wouldn't mind going to the trouble of posting it? If that doesn't suit you then no worries :)

I've just checked the mail from Happydonkey and Scott charged me GBP 5.75 shipping on my last order.

Finally got around to ordering the portafilter from Happy Donkey. It arrived within a few days and . . . you know . . . it works as expected.

Just for reference, the one that came with the Classic originally had the two spouts at 90 degree angles from the handle - like this http://www.gaggia.uk.com/filterholder.htm - which meant that the portafilter was essentially free standing. You could put it down on the counter and it wouldn't fall over.

The one that came from Happy Donkey has the two spouts offset to one side, so it doesn't stand by itself. Not a biggie, but it means that one spout pours back towards the water tank. The impact here is that you can't fit two cups 'properly' under the spouts because the tank gets in the way. It doesn't impact me unduly because I use those teeny-tiny cups (either expresso ones or just a little larger). However, sometimes I do like more milk so I use bigger mugs - when I want to do this next time it won't fit.

I'm not about to return it because it does the job for me, but people who use bigger cups may need to consider whether it will fit.

I only saw this thread now... but I replaced my portafilter with a crotchless one. The original is used for a homebrewed pressure gauge and for backflushing. I think the original Gaggia 2 spout is sitting in a drawer at home if you want to swap.

Any advice on this? I used their 'Contact Us' thingy but have had no reply.

    Thanks.

Thanks. I was looking for their phone number online when I came across this thread!

I sent them the message over the weekend so the 24 hr thing didn't happen for me.

    I'll call them, so.
