Don't think there's a veggie/vegan or animal welfare society. There is an Enviromental soc, but the link from the UCC site isn't working, so I dunno if it's any good to ya. Not sure if the list on the site has all the socs on it, so there might be one to suit you.
Check the list yourself though. LINKY

Well if you join the Labour Society, you can rest assured that we support animal rights! :) ....

Or animal testing....whatever it takes for you to join!! ;)

We don't need one, but people are into that kind of thing. Like religion, or politics.

Are you for real? Surely I don't need to answer that!

Oh ya meant to say thanks to Aodan for the info/link, may check out the juggling soc for the laugh! Must say the nutritional science faculty is seriously under-represented on that list (Cowpunchers are useless for organising anything other than a teeny disco)

what would the agenda of a meeting be?

    1. Eating meat is bad
    2. AOB

    seriously

Questions that moronic don't deserve to be answered. Why don't you waste someone else's time on another thread instead of trying to stir sh*t up on mine.

Further trolling (Bleg) and insults (khrystyna100) will result in infractions and this thread to be closed.

Back on topic, and debate/inform in a civil manner please.

    seriously

I was actually thinking the exact same thing and would SERIOUSLY like to know what you would talk about each week for a year.

I'm not trolling or any such nonsense.

The point of this thread is to ascertain as to whether or not UCC has a vegan society (as far as I can tell no, it doesn't). Debating the agenda of this non-existent society is neither here nor there, and strikes me as little more then taking the piss for no good reason. Ok?

Anyway, since the OP had her question answered, thread closed. If she wants it re-opened then she can PM me.

Thread re-opened; however, keep discussion informative and nuetral regarding UCC's Vegetarian Society.

    Thank you Orizio.

So to set up a society in UCC, you fill in the proposal form detailing what the ethos/aims of the soc would be and what sort of stuff you'd do: http://www.ucc.ie/en/societies/FAQ/newsociety/

and submit it to the societies guild office on College Road.

You need a founding committee of 4 members: an auditor, a treasurer, a secretary, and a PRO.

If approved, you then hold an AGM to elect a full committee.

Would it be possible to list the topics covered and activities of such a society.

If people knew more about it then it might take off.

I dissaprove. Allowing this sort of thing will open a floodgate of dietry-restricted societies. I don't want my children growing up with a coeliac society !!!

having that said, being vegetarian I don't see much point in the society :\
but best of luck with it

Vegans/Veggies are a weak and weedy lot and barely have enough energy to get out of bed, never mind...meet, plot, found societies....

Brainwave.....hows about a Carnivore's Club with ritual cow slaughtering in the Quad, followed by barbeques and steak tartare eating contests! :D

The French have the right idea......if it flies, walks or swims...shoot it and eat it! :P

    Whats the story with funding??

As I suspected, the thread's been hijacked by people who just don't seem to get the point! If you're not interested, why bother?! Pathetic.

@itsallaboutheL: funding comes once you've been approved by the socs guild.

Keep your knickers on Mary, so far no one has forwarded a single reason to set up a veggie/vegan society.

Next you have someone wanting to set up a "People who like the colour turquoise" society.

WTF is wrong with the colour turquoise? Please try not to single out this colour in such a discriminatory and disparaging way. Mary! Please report Ben to UCC's Societies Obergruppenfurher! Its the gas chamber for trouble makers like you Benny boy! Heil:mad: Mary!
