    What exactly is it and what does it mean?
    Why has it not been publicised more?

    It's a kind of much looser version of the EU. The Euromediterranean partnership has since transformed into the Union for the Mediterranean.

    The idea is to create an area of security, economic co-operation etc. Of course it is nowhere near as organised/formalised as the EU.

    It actually received a lot of publicity when it was relaunched. If you remember Bastille day last year Sarkozy as President of the Council invited all the members of the Union for the Mediterranean to the celebration. I remember it cause Brian Cowan was there looking sheepish after the rejection of Lisbon.
