Why didn't Sun go back in time?

    Hey,
This has been wrecking my head and I hope I'm not repeating someone else's thread but does anyone know or come up with a theory as to why Sun didn't go back in time with all the other Losties?
At first I was beginning to think that maybe a baby Sun was on the island and perhaps you cant have two of the same people from different times on the island but Miles has admitted that Dr Chang I think his name is, is his father and we have seen Miles looking in a window at a baby Miles on his father's knee. Therefore dispelling that theory of mine.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

    Thanks:D

If I was to hazard a guess maybe it is like quantum leap where you can only travel in time along your own timeline.

But not sure if Sun is the youngest of the group.

I couldn't hazard a guess at this stage.

Tbh. It makes no sense to me whatsoever. I can't think of any good reason why Sun would stay when everyone else would go back other then the writers wanting to delay the big re-union with Jin.

    The island is racist.

Nah,it was just a plot device used by the writers to keep Jin and Sun apart longer. They'll make some excuse that will be mentioned vaguely at the end of this season/some time next season.

Best explanation I have is that it was a result of the "unpredictable" effects of all of them not returning to the island. Hawking warned them about this. Aaron was one of the O6 and clearly has a destiny on the island but he didn't return. But this obviously ties into the bigger question of why only the Losties, and not the Others or 316 passengers, were flashing through time.

Wasn't Jin still on the Island when Sun had the baby? That episode happened in Jins past but Sun's future, they were completely seperate times.
As for the OP, I would have no idea other than to go along with them delaying the reunion only for it to be blamed on the unpredictability of time travel.

Good theory, but unlikely - since the Daniel, Charlotte et al travelled to 1954 (and possibly earlier, when they saw the Egyptian statue), which is not within their lifetimes.

I heard a theroy that Sun did not travel with the others because John had promised Jin not to allow her to come back to the island. Since John has a strong connection to the island, it might have done what he wanted by not bringing her along with the others.

Not really. He never got to see 2005 as the flashes happened as soon as Sun left the island. Just because we see events from 2 different times in the same episode doesn't mean there is any actual connection. It's just a plot convenience. Of course this calls into question why Desmond suddenly remembered his meeting with Daniel in 2007 early on in the season but that's a different story.

Her pregnancy probably has something to do with it. Ben, Locke and Frank didnt go back either, maybe "the island" didnt want them to go back because it has a need for them in the future. Or it put the rest back to the 70s because they were needed for something there, but Sun, Ben, Locke and Frank were not.
Something to do with Destiny perhaps?

Thanks for all your replies, they really have me thinking!!
I quite like the theory about John promising not to bring her back, though someone pointed out the other people that didnt return either.

I'm sure it will be explained but i find peoples theories very interesting about it al :D

It's because the writers clearly just want the character to ask everyone she meets if they can find her husband.

I really like the character (sometimes she has a Sayid like instinct) so hopefully she'll get something cool to do.

I kind of hoped Richard would have cracked the picture frame over her head when she asked him.
