When Good Logic Files go Bad - Corrupt .lso files.

There is nothing as fustrating as this (at the moment :pac:)

You are bombing away.. and then you notice something wrong in the behaviour of the project. Normally for me the tracks start acting up or parts play where there are no parts

It's crazy to me that this happens at all. Sure a corrupt file here or there is going to be a possibility with any program, but its probably happened 5 times in the last year and a bit. Interestingly - I've never had the problem with Fruity Loops / Reason or Ableton.

I regularly save my work & also try to make different versions at various milestones in the project (just incase..), so I didnt lose anything on this occasion - apart from my actual time.

I read recently that the "glitch" occurs when the .lso file is being saved.. so its right at that last moment that it all goes pear shaped. Therefore, the Guy that is pressing Save at regular intervals is powerless.

Anyway.. If its true, its ironic that its the Save.

So its a case of - F*cked if you dont Save often.. & Possibly F*cked if do also.

But I'm just wondering if any of you Logical Folks out there have noticed anything about what causes it etc? I cant see any patterns in the way I use Logic. It must be something behind the scenes.

So, any Super User tips for avoiding corrupt-ness in Logic?

My advice would be to Save As with slightly different names, such as

    Song X 1 PARTS
    Song X 2 STRUCTURE
    Song X 3 VER1

    ETC..

You'll end up with many different .lso files. At least you'll have something to fall back on if you require it.

I'm sure all you Pro Guys probably do this already.. but for any of you Express Chaps (like myself.. ), this might not have happened to you yet.

dunno about logic but i regularly do a "save as.." in PT. simply because if a file can go corrupt it probably will (especially if its important). lucklily PT has an "import from session" function. does logic have that?

Absolutely.. If you think it could go wrong.. theres a damb good chance of it!

    Not sure Mate..

Falling short of asking you to post the Manual ;) - I dont have any experience of PT - SO. .I'm not entirely sure to be honest.

You can import files if thats what it does - Just guessing - HAHA! :D

    import from session.

basically it opens a dialog in protools that shows up everything in a session (tracks, tempo and meter maps, timecodes etc) and allows you to pick and choose what you want to import.

its very essential for me when working from home because it means i can import certain parts (lets say drums) of a large HD session onto a smaller LE rig, comp down to keep my track count down and then go and do the same again with say guitars while all the time keeping the original routing and plugins.

also comes in very handy for the topic in hand. if a session becomes corrupt you just import all the regions and settings to a newly named session and away you go

Wow.. That sounds great! So it basically keeps everything seperate.

    Like cells. Excellent.

So.. does it all tie back in automatically into the "Master" session? or do you have to stick it all back in?

Apologies - Know nothing about PT Mate!!

My Logic use these days is minimal - however I do recall there was an Auto Save function that made a Saved copy every 5 mins or whatever it was.

If there was an issue you just opened a previous version.

The men who'd know about suchlike would be Trackmixstudio and Tweeky I'd suggest ...

its a new master session you create and you get to pick and choose which settings you want to include.

basically if i have a session called "sesh 1" and it goes corrupt i can create a new session, import "sesh 1" data and it will exactly the same but under a new name.

you also have the option to copy audio into new session folder or link to the original audio.

I've seen those Auto Saves at times & if they're Saving from the point after the file gets corrupted, then they too are corrupted.

AS is great. A Lifesaver if you FUBAR a synth patch etc..

I've certainly had to make use of them once or twice!
