    Guys

NCT last week failed/refuse me on 3 points, 2 i can fix myself and the last is a little trickey one (for me at least).

The petrol flap that should open when you push it in, doen;t open. it sort of just sticks there. I can open it easily with a small coin, but when i push it in to close, the spring at the back doesn;t seem to catch.

Its a Skoda Octavia 05 model, and i'd rather fix it myself than have to bring it to a garage.

    Any ideas ?

Are you hearing anything when you press the release mechanism in the car? I know in most VW's it's electically controlled so it could be a fuse if your not hearing anything.

No i can hear the spring going in at the back of the flap, but i can't hear a click or a catch. Its not electronic, just a manual one.
I should just have to push in for it to open.

Just try clean in around the flap and the catches first and spray the spring and catches with WD40 just to make sure its not something simple like that. if not then you may have to start replacing springs etc

I'll give that a shot, but the spring is behing a black soft plastic cover, so i am thinking that i might have to replace the plastic part or the fuel cap

Gah. I have a similar issue to the OP with my Octavia, when I press the flap nothing happens. It takes unlocking of the central locking and a little bit of leverage to open.

Never thought it would be an issue with the NCT. Anymore advice on this one?

I expect it failed the nct because as the flap would not open, then the vehicle inspector was unable to inspect the seal. If you are unable to fix it within the 28 days for the retest, you could remove the flap and fit one of the cheap emergency caps for the test. These are acceptable to the nct.
