Hi all, i'm a bit of a techno pleb and need some advice! I'm trying to make a CD of music, by taking music from my laptop and burning to a CD, but when i select the play-list and press the burn CD icon, it'll make the appropriate noises, as in CD tray closes etc but then i get a message saying ''unknown error 2131''? Anyone have any ideas on what i'm doing wrong?
The music is on my itunes and the music is not bought from itunes but rather Cd's that ive put unto my laptop and the blank Cd im using is a Kodak 52xCD-R....
    Thanks guys..

Ok what software are you using to burn the cd.did you use msoft media player to rip cd to your hard drive.Thinking about what you posted are you shure that you are trying to burn the music files(mp3,wma ect)and not the play list file (dont know what file extension they are).have plenty of blank cd`s ready it can take awhile to get it right

This seems to be a common problem. There's alot of information about it on the apple forums. Do some googling and you might come across the solution, or someting that will help.

Often CD burning problems are caused by writing to the disc too fast, try turning down the write speeds, bad or cheap disks can also cause big problems. I always found Verbatim to be the best.

Ya might as well be speaking Klingon to me now as me understanding the 2 posts above me! Lads i'm a techno phobe!!!

All i know is i highlight the play-list i want to burn, click on burn Cd,Cd tray closes and whirrs, then a box comes up asking about the time i want between songs etc, (i'm picking 2 secs), im not clicking anything else on that box, i opt out of it and then the ''unknown error 2131'' message comes up?

The Cd's are Kodak and i've loads of Cd's made for me with that brand.
As for software when loading on Cd's to laptop, i simply open tray pop in Cd and i-tunes then comes on screen asking me to import Cd and it does the rest, i don't open any application other than i-tunes. HELP!!

You're using a laptop.. any chance it's a Dell? The issue is common with a particular brand of CD burner, typically, a CD DVD drive made by TSST.

In fact, it isn't Dell specific, it seems to be the TSST drives themselves causing the problems.

This problem 'might' go away if you have access to an external CD burner, one which you can plug in using USB etc.

I'll have a Google for solutions, but the TSST problem has been lingering since late 2007.

    ---

Off-topic: iTunes can be a pest at times. I have two Shuffles that give me mystery errors and one actually causes my computer to BSOD under XP, but mysteries of mysteries, they work fine under Linux or Foobar under Windows.

The solution from Apple, users are advised to replace the product, as in, buy new ones..

MonicaBing, see what comes up in your system properties, or else right click your optical drive in explorer and click on properties.

The Acer 5620Z has several options for optical drives, two of the brands being TSST and Hitachi LG..

My first suggestion is try to other soft to burn CD. There's a lot to choose. Free or commercial trial version.
    http://filehippo.com/download_deepburner/
    http://cdburnerxp.se/
    http://www.xilisoft.com/mp3-cd-burner.html
As somebody advised already use burning speed x8 not max.

    Then we will see.
