I hope to support this but the inaugural Green Joker Poker European Short-Handed Poker Championships is on the 4th-7th June 2009 at The BallsBridge Inn, Dublin.

Players may be interested in donating to Cross Care & contributing the same amount to a bounty for their designated players........... I can think of a few !!!! :D:D:D

Stressful Short-Handed play vs. the warm inward glow of pokering for a good cause I know where I'll be :).

In case anyone needs a greater incentive I can tell you I have already secured a pogo stick:eek:, a fondue set:eek::eek: and a cuddly toy :eek::eek: for the raffle!!!

Come on guys a Fondue set!

Book early on tournament@crosscare.ie to avoid disappointment

hope to play this and support a good cause
would like to see the SE donate some of the reg fee aswell
seem s a bit unfair to be paying more than the standard 10% for a charity event
gl with this anyway hope you get the numbers

    Cheers Mummy06,

    Hope to see you there.

I will be the one wear the Crosscare T-Shirt.

Remember if you knock me out of the tourney you get €100

As a government health warning I should add that while I may not be the greatest of players I am the jammiest of dodgers:)

    W.

On the €10 reg fee I should say that Phil and everone in the Sporting Emporium have been really good to me during this and there will be food on the night.

Also they are allowing all people coming along to play the tourney to register with the club for free waiving the usual €25 reg. I appreciate that this is not an incentive for those who are already members but it still could me a reasonable sum they are giving up.

For those who are regulars of the Sporting Emporium you might view this as an oppertunity to welcome some new players into the club..they might come back on a regular basis and push up the pots in the regular tourneys. Also don't forget the oppertunity to win that fundue set:)

    Hey everyone,

Only 3 weeks to go. It was mentined to me that having one bounty of €100 is a bit much and it would be better to maybe have 4@€25

Would love to hear some opinions

    Cheers

    W.

I think 2 bounties at €50 looks good.

Also for those that are not members of the SE who register for the event is their membership just for the night or does it continue beyond?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19 Called4value

    Hi Vic,

Thanks for that. The membership carries forward.

    Cheers,

    Wayne

    Hi Lady,

First time I have done this so I cannot be sure but based on the interest I had initially it would be 120 runners (i.e. the capacity of the Sporting Emporium) but allowing for the fact that a lot might say they will come but drop out and including maybe some regulars from the Sporting I am thinking 40-45 is a reasonable estimate.

If we could pick up some of the folks in town who might go out early in the 6handed in Ballsbridge that would be cool but that is probably just wishful thinking

    Hope to see you tomorrow

    Wayne

40-45 is a decent show I am really looking forward to this although the pressures on with the missus insisting I win the eddie rockets vouchers

Hi to the organisers! good luck to everybody involved. I approached the SE months ago about a Charity event for the Chernobyl Kids and after firstly saying yes they came back to me 2 hours later with a 'we have had to refuse charity events before so it would not be fair to do yours' (and I have been a reg for years!). Thats why I dont support the SE anymore. But I would like to wish you the best of luck with your event (you are taking on lots of games this weekend!) and although I would not go myself I would like to donate €100.00 to your Charity. Please post Bank details to deposit funds,

    Phil Baker

    Hi Phil,

Thanks for the wishes of good luck and the donation will be put to good use. http://www.crosscare.ie/donation.htm is the place on the website where you will find all the details with different ways to donate.

I should mention that the initially response when I first broached this was that while they were keen to support us they had turned down requests before and felt it might not be fair. However after some internal conversation they decided that they would do something with us. I think this change of heart should be applauded. Firstly in the current economic climate all charities are finding their funding squeezed so new openings are really welcome. Secondly poker, poker players and casino's are not always seen in the best light and this change of heart on the part of the Sporting Emporium senior management might go some way to changing that.

I guess what I'm saying is that maybe you should think about coming back to the sporting and show your support for this positive change

    Thats my 2 cent

By the way, the Doyle Brunson books I left up as part of the PPP spot prizes are 'Poker Wisdom of a Champion'; well worth a read if you've missed it. Loads of funny and interesting stories from 'back in the day'!

Hope you get a decent crowd Wayne! :)

Hey Lady Di did you finish 3rd?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 178 ✭✭Lady Di

Yep I presume by your name you were heads up when I left? How did you do?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,151 ✭✭✭Scouser in Dub

we played on for about 30 minutes then decided to chop. It was a shame about the numbers but it was a good laugh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 405 ✭✭bigbadpat

At the start of the heads up I had about 65,000 chips againgst 85,000. We played the heads up for what seemed over an hour. I went ALL-IN at least 10 times without a call. This could have gone all night...so I offered a chop after I got ahead about 80,000 against 70,000.

Well done to Wayne & the SE for running this. Pity about the numbers.
Very enjoyable night. There were loads of spot prizes. I hope Vera enjoys her Roy Keane Book.

Good luck Lady Di with your upcoming heads up event.;)

hey Pat was good playing with you, yeah it could have taken all night and the missus forgave me not picking the eddie rockets vouchers when I told here I chopped.

Was a good laugh all the same

How many runners in the end?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 178 ✭✭Lady Di

Well done to the two of you, pity I was partically card dead at the final table so couldn't play back at you more ;)

Ionapaul there was only 16 runners, so very dissapointing for the charity. A lot of things going against it though, match other poker events.... pity!

Very impressed with the SE, will be going back there again!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19 Called4value

    Hi All,

It was a really nice atmosphere hopefully we can do it again sometime.

I leared a bit from the night as well. The spot prize deliver system could have worked a bit better and I think if I was doing it again I might have either a bounty on each table or maybe split a cash prize for bad beat of the night and best hand or something.

Thanks again to everyone who participated and to Jack and Phil in the Sporting Emporium.

    Wayne

Sometimes being card dead can be good......You could have been in that hand when there were 6 left and all the Aces came into play. I limped with A K and after the rainbow flop A K 7 the player on my left went all-in with A J (4,500 in chips) and the player on my right went all-in with A Q (18,500 in chips) and I called with A K (20,500 in chips). They got no help on the River or the Turn. Then we were down to 4.

    Nice playing with you ;)
