I heard they had created a fantastic album and I was apprehensive - even for having liked their debut, but f**k me.... it's wicked. Had no big interest in catching them live before but I'd love to see them now.

That's exactly it! I liked the first album but always kept them at arms distance because they were another NME hype band. There was a chance it was more style over substance but they had a few great songs there but this album means it's ok to say you like them without gettin snarled at.
I must have listened to it 3 times in work yesterday.

    ...Now wheres my Ipod??

I hated their old stuff but I must give this album another listen.

Thought their first album was absolutely atrocious, but this is a big improvement. Kinda Joy Divisiony...

I think this could be my new 'depressed/break up/angry' album.

Only heard sea within a sea, buts its a fantastic song, its seems to have it all sounding a bit like Echo and the Bunnymen, Jesus and the Mary chain with a touch of the early 90's shoe-gazing droning sound of Loop, My Bloody Valentine, and Ride, but having its own identity and blissful entrancing darkness. Must checkout the album

Ok so one song can remind you of 5 pretty distinct bands and still have it's own identity.

To me, that sounds like complete and utter garbage, with a dollop of crap, a tea spoon of name dropping and truck load of telling you absolutely nothing about the song.

Who rattled your cage?, maybe if you bothered listening to the track, then you could make a constructive contribution about it, rather than that obnoxious comment, just because you're a mod, do you think you're better than the rest.

I have listened to the track. My comment was far from obnoxious if you took it that way, that is your problem, my being a mod has very little relevence to this. MY point still stands. You said as little as i did about the track. If you are going to spout nonsense some will call you on it.

/edit: any other problems with my opinions take it to PM.

Many bands have a few obvious influences which you can hear. The band's own identity lies in their ability to fuse these influences together.

I mean, if you had a band who were playing hardcore punk music but had an opera singer, you could say they reminded you of Black Flag, Minor Threat etc and Andrea Bochelli. I'm sure the said band would have it's own identity though, regardless of whether you can identify similarities in their music.

You seem to have missed the point a little. My problem lies with the fact that one single song mentioned and the wide range of pretty distinct artists mentioned. Anyway no more sidetracking, I have no porblems discussing it but don't want to ruin anyones thread.

Anyone wonder if this will sound like a disaster live though? It's got such a production that I wonder what the band will sound like performing it. Maybe I should scan youtube and see if any results are there.

Have this.Sea Within A Sea is cool, not listened to the rest yet.Admittedly I raged against the Horrors before listening to a note of music.

EDIT-not sure about the whole album,I think it has potential but it'd need further listens.

Very produced, if you know what I mean...liked a few songs fro the 2007 album but this is sounding noisy and I like!

Nicky Wire's favourite band currently - great tunes. My iPod has been playing far too much Glas Vegas, these boys are a great replacement
