Sony VAIO laptops and virtualisation

I recently bought a VAIO FW21E. It's a grand machine apart from a couple of minor niggles but I would never have bought it if I had known in advance that virtualization technology is not supported on most VAIO models. Even if the CPU and chipset support it, the BIOS does not allow VT to be enabled.

There is a not-for-the-fainthearted workaround available here:

But if you are considering a VAIO and virtualisation is important to you, you might like to be aware of this limitation.
