Looking to purchase a rifle for Deer stalking for next season, have only ever used a bolt action my own being a marlin 925 .22 wmr. I know of a Mauser .270 in straight pull thats up for grabs, any thoughts out there. Thanks

Meh. Horses for courses. I wouldn't be fond of a straight pull. Just my opinion

Not fond either. I would have a fear that it might fly back and wallop the face...... Bolt action for me.

Yep i think your all right , held it yesterday and didn't take to it. Am sure you would get use to it fairly quickly but the i found that i would have to drop the stock from my shoulder to reach the bolt. Another question I use my .22wmr for foxes , would a .243 be overkill because i saw a lovely Remington 243 which might suit me better

Nope, fantastic round for foxes, and nice number for deer too. If I could only have one gun to do everything in this country, it'd probably be a .243 for sheer versatility.

If you're going down the dual rifle route, have a look at a 25-06 either
