James Young MD of sE Mics will be over in X-Music tomorrow (Wednesday 6th) afternoon with the new Rupert Neve Ribbon mic if anyone wants a goo.

I also had a studio in city centre booked to do a 'shoot-out' but they've gone and got themselves a 'proper' session instead.

However I may still be able to sort something.

    Anyone interested?

If you got the studio demo up and running I'd be interested.

    Sorted !

It will now be at Cauldron Studio

    http://www.cauldronstudios.com/

    6.30pm to 8.30pm

Anyone who wants to bring any instrument please do, same for singers.

Cauldron was where Lisa Hannigan did her album.

Cauldron is owned by Ciaran Byrne and Bill Shanley. Ciaran has worked with everyone from U2 downwards (or upwards depending on your view) and Bill's most recent gig was playing guitar in Kinks Ray Davies band.

Should be a laugh if nothing else!! See you there.

looking forward to this. Will there be any other ribbons there to do a shoot out?

Cauldron do have other ribbons, a Nady , a 'regular' sE (or 2) and maybe another one, I can't recall.

Cool I have a T-Bone version of those Nady. Same mic, same factory, differnent badge. Its a little too dark for my liking. I am raging I didn't bring one of my Beyer M160s in, one of my fav mics for guitar amps.

the m160 ( and the 130 ) is also wonderful on drum overheads .

arent all ribbons dark though ?

ive been testing on me new guitar amp , and i found the audix i5 to be very nice , it sounds smoother and more detailed than a 57 .

Yes, I think so. However a ribbon eqed up bright can be nice on a source that doesn't have a natural smoothness, say bad cymbals or a barky guitar amp.

We've also had some nice results with the Coles 4040 on vocals too.

Oh yeah had some great results with the M160s as overheads.

I have found a Beyer 201 really nice on guitar amps as well, the way I would describe it is sort of like a "Hi-Fi" 57, it has a little mid-range bump but is smoother than a 57.
