Already failed once, mainly down to nerves but the car didnt help either. How hard, expensive is it generally to do the test in the instructors car?

Thinking about it as a serious option.

    TIA :)

You should go for it if your car is bad. 30-50 euro max

Unless you're used to driving your instructor's car a lot I wouldn't bother. The last thing you want on your test is to be driving a strange car, go with the one you're used to. I think it normally costs about €120-€140 to hire the car, which I think would include a pre-test beforehand

Not as bad as I thought, own car has no power-steering and I need all the help I can get :D I was planning on getting a few lessons anyway just thought this would make better sense than buying a new car and starting from scratch.

Is it just a matter of getting insured on the Instructors car for the day?

Thank you both for your replies :)

I think most instructors have their car insured so anyone can drive it so the insurance should not be a problem.

My instructor lets people use his car for test, which is usually if people don't have own car yet I imagine or if they have problems with own car. It costs same as two hour lesson which is €70 this includes lesson before test.

If you have a couple of lessons in your instructors car and drive it for 45mins-1hr before test you should get used to it. Say your test is on a friday, do a lesson on the wed and thur and fri morning or just before test and dont drive your own car inbetween. It'll be easier to do your test in a car with power steering that is also a reliable car. Ask your instructor what they say.

Yes I think as part of the Instructors ins cover, you're automatically covered once either he or a tester is in the car. Shop around for the best price, but I suppose it depends where you're living, Dublin might be more expensive than other parts of the country.

asked my instructor today about using his car for my test and he said will be about 120 that inculdes an hour of driving before hand, if your more comfortable in your instructors car i'd go with that tbh

I've done it twice to get a restricted and a full license. Thought it was well worth the money, in particular for the drive around beforehand to help calm nerves
