    Released: 1992

I remember the excitement over this album - there was much gushing by NME and Melody Maker (which couldn't always be trusted). It was a time of mucho exciting rock coming out of the US of A. I remember my brother being absolutely obsessed with this album - nothing seemed to leap out at me from it. Methinks I need to go reinvestigate it...

Terrific album though, for me, 'Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain' remains their greatest. Their 10 year re-issues have been immaculate.

Fantastic album. Fantastic band. It was clear to me that Pavement were a very special band from listening to the first track 'Summer Babe (Winter Version)'. It just jumped out at me announcing Pavement as one of my favorite bands from then on.

'Slanted and Enchanted' has so many defining features which make it so endearing and serves as a great introduction to the band. The guitar sound, Malkmus' penchant for strange lyrics and the spontaneous nature of the album.

My personal highlight has to be the intro to 'Loretta's Scars'. Gets me every time!

haha another winner for me from this forum. I bought this solely because you guys said it was good and while it wasn't what I expected, I've listened to it 6 times since buying it yesterday. Great album!

    Masterpiece!

Its a lot easier to get into than S&E. I've only recently discovered how great 'Filmore Jive' is. Love the extra tracks on the reissue too.

    Tune!

Haha this is turning into a Crooked Rain Crooked Rain thread. We may as well turn it into a general Pavement thread!

    Wowee Zowee anyone???

I think Wowee Zowee is defo their best. Hated it when I first got it, but after a while it grew on me. The likes of Kennel District, Grounded, At&t and that: absolute genius.

I'm not sure if its their best. Still discovering it tbh. Theres just so much on it.
Grounded is prob my favorite. We Dance is a strange album opener but it works really well. Wasnt expecting a mellow opener. Very un-Pavement-like up till that point. They usually kick off with a bang. Saved the bang for the second track.

The opening track, Summer Babe (Winter Version) is one of my absolute favourites, employing a slight-shoegazer-style haze of layered guitars and Stephen Malkmus's narcoleptic vocal delivery, to create a three-minute blast of perfect pop in the lo-fi tradition
