Got an iPhone last week and now I really want to get ringtones cos you can't use your iPod (which is retarded) and you can't buy off iTunes (which I'd prefer not to anyway).

So my question is how do you get ringtones or where?

Google it, there is a step by step process that lets you make them from any mp3 you want. They are limited to being under a certain file size and under a certain length which is annoying.

Okay, I've done that but I can't seem to get it to go into the ringtones section just music....?

What really puzzles me is that Apple with all their merchandisng skills haven't copped on to a possible lucrative market and started selling ringtones.

Is there any ringtone generating apps or software?

Did you rename the file extension? Main problem I had when I did it the first time is I made the ringtone too long and it refused to appear on the phones ringtone list.

There's a handy free windows app called iRinger that can do this - it will insert it into the ringtones menu on the phone and everything.

Have used iRinger before but, this is much much better

    http://audiko.net/

    upload your mp3
edit it the section of the song you want the ringtone to be.
Save the ringtone in iPhone format
Drag the ringtone file into iTunes and to the iPhone

    Job done.

All done through the site also, you can just search for a particular ringtone and then download it, great site.

Apple do sell ringtones, in the US only at the moment. Because of the insane greed of the record companies though, it's not very popular. They consider a ringtone as another sale of a song and so charge 99c for the song and an extra 99c for making it a ringtone!

You could take the iPhone-Ringtones-for-Dummies Route and download PhoneZap off the AppStore. It lets you make ringtones out of the songs on your iPod app
