All in One Pc or an iMac with XP on it

After 4 years of having a laptop I really want to go back to a desktop. Laptopts are not good desktop replacements, ergonomically speaking with the keyboard to close to the screen.

My problem with desktops is the size and the noise and all those cables.

So I've been looking at the all in one jobs and yes they are expensive for what you get but I do like them. It will mostly be for browsing, photo editing, watching videos.

The imac looks the best option, pricewise. How are they with XP on them? Convince me I'm doing the right or wrong thing.

You're nuts if You think the iMac with Xp is better value than a pc to be brutally honest

Not great value when u consider You're only getting a dated 2.6Ghz Core 2 Duo (which Intel have stopped making last year actually) and only 640Gb of hd space (I bought a 1TB last month for under €80). You'd build a pc of better spec with a 24' monitor for ~€700-800.
Also Your copy of Xp needs to be retail, OEM versions live and die with the pc they come on

Add a few hundred euro for labour on that self build and then you just have a ****ty noisy, mish mash of good components that cannot match an all in one for design.

LOL, off You go to Apple and their quality components then

    <cough> sucker <cough>

Don't know where You're getting the figure for a few hundred for labour, only takes a few hrs put a pc together, takes 3-4 times that to get all Your software on it, but You'd have to go through that anyway to put XP on it. Buy the right quality case and You'd have no noise

ALL IN ONE ALL IN ONE. Do you read?

I earn over e100 an hour so anything that costs me time costs me money.

Mightn't be the wisest choice when Apple are set to drop the price, its like they're admitting to their ridiculous price markup by finally implementing a price cut.

Why do you need XP? I would, of course, recommend that you get a Mac but OS X should be the big selling point, not just that it's an all-in-one.

The thought of an iMac running XP all the time makes me shudder.

I always built my own pc's mostly because i needed the power and possiblity for upgrades. but since i do my gaming on consoles i do need to upgrade my pc that much anymore.
So me too would like to get rid of the noisy desktop, certainly after i saw this one:

    lenovo-a600.jpg

Cost a bit but i like the looks

Look in PC World (no i'm not taking the piss)

There are a range of all in one units including a touch screen HP job with vista which I thought wasn't bad for an all in one job.

The imacs look very pretty and are very neat. You could always go Mac and get their photo editor Aperture2 whcih is meant to be quite good unless you are wedded to something in XP that you have to use.
