You're screwed was the first idea coming to my mind; second was expect to have some very big bills coming your way which I would get a qoute on before I buy that car (18, first car etc.).

*Edit* And I was right; for fun I decided to make a request on Hibernian (first that came up on a google search) for a 1500 Euro Ford from 2000 in Dublin 24 with a 1.4L petrol engine. Qouted me at 5737.81 Euro for full insurance or 4889.22 for Third party, fire and theft. Don't expect to see anything below 3000 Euro myself but hey have a swirl and see what they say.

In short you're insurance will very likely cost you more then the car in a year because you are the most dangerous group to insurance and you're most likely to smash a Mercedes which the company has to pay.

Get yourself something like a micra, clio, polo.. Etc.
You'll get a decent quote on something like that. My insurance first time around was 1800on a clio

You could give a commercial vehicle a go, youll only have 2 seats but you can drive a van or a jeep reguardless of engine size and get cheap tax, im 19 and pay 1650 a year through quinn, i have a full licence but im sure it wouldnt go over 2500 for provisional

I was getting 1500 on a relatively new Panda at 19 on a provisional. While ago now, mind. Quinn Direct; generally find that they're much cheaper than the cheapest 'young driver' offer from anyone else.
