Another Season Over :(

Anyone else wish it snowed all year so the season never ends? My friends think I'm nuts, but I would prefer a winter holiday any day over a sun holiday.

I could of course chase the winter seasons around the world, hmmm

Anyone ever done anything like that?

I much prefer winter too - not sure winter all the time would be good though.

Definately prefer snow over sun holidays.

Although so far it's only been the odd week or two at a time, I'm about to do the season in New Zealand. So by this time next year I'll have done 5 winters in a row without spending the whole of any summer in either hemisphere. :D

May need to start taking some extra vitamin D(?) with the lack of daylight I'm getting to encounter. ;)

Hey Robin - how do you manage to get a visa sorted out each time??

I've done the whole endless winter thing in 06 - 08. Whistler-NZ-Switzerland. Almost 300 days on the hill between the three.

It's all just been short holidays so far so no visas required. The upcoming season in NZ I'm not going to be working for so I won't need a visa for that either as I have an automatic 6 month holiday visa for there (UK passport), it's only 3 months that you get with the Irish passport though I think.

I have been looking into trying to get a Canada or USA working visa for winter 09/ 10 in case it does come down to me needing to try for a job in the mountains and try and make use of the instructor qualification I should have by then. Unfortunately, no such thing exists for an oldie like myself so will be stuck in Europe then.

You can always do a little Summer boarding to keep yourself sane till next winter.

Its suppose to be good fun, board for 4 hours in the morning, then you can mountain bike, hill walk etc in the afternoon, or just hit the pub :)

    I feel with you!

Am just in the painful process of convincing myself that the season came to a close: I live currently in Norway and do cross country / back country skiing, mainly even in walking distance from my house. (Only the last few times I had to use some auxiliary tool  ) Was able to get over five and a half months of it this winter, so somehow it's OK. But seeing all this snow still lying around out there...! If I manage to stay away from the woods until the last snow vanishes I'm safe ;)

I guess there'll still be occasion for at least another month within 2-3 hours driving distance though. And then the summer skiing centres further south have just opened...

    1,000th post, woot :pac:

Im off backpacking Lima down to Buenos Aires this summer so I'm definately stopping in Bariloche in the Andes for at least 2 weeks. I feel I need it as I only got 3 days in the season just gone.
And Im meeting up with a mate who is also a snowboard instructor so rather than just the usual 1 week every year and not progressing I hope to be able to ride switch competently by the fortnights end and be able to do a few more tricks than usual , can't wait for the Argie powder:D

    Hey Robinph

Are you doing your instructors course in NZ? Rookie academy? Snow Trainers?

Yes i'm pissed off too that the season is over, had some great trips over winter to Whistler and Japan. But i just bought my Epic Pass for Colorado - Vail,Beaver Creek,Breck,Keystone & A-Basin no blackout days $579 bargain! Just need to get enough work done between now and then to try and do full season

It's with Peak Leaders that I'm doing the instructors course, based in Queesntown and at Coronet Peak. Just got a new "free" jacket in the post from them today as well, hopefully we won't look too daft with all of us wearing the same kit on the slopes. :D
