Training course while on dole

I'm unemployed and I have applied to do a week long programming training course which I have paid for myself and is due to start next week.

Problem is that it is on the other side of the city and I won't be able to get to my local post office to collect my dole during those days at all. I thought about asking the Social Welfare local office whether other arrangements could be made but I'm afraid they will stop my payments as technically I should be looking for work and I'm also not sure whether this course is approved by the dept of Social Welfare.

Anyone got any ideas on what I should do?

The Social welfare let you take up to 12 days holiday each year so you could take it as a weeks holiday since its only a week long and collect your money next week.

I understand your situation. Im going to do a month long full time course next month. I asked Fas do they fund it, they said no so im paying for it myself. I wont be able to get to the post office every week to collect the money so Im going to ask them can I get it at the end of the course.

It would seem stupid if they stop my social welfare because Im actively trying to get a job by doing a course, so Im going to ask them what options I have of still getting payment.

In your case your just doing one week, you can go down to the dole office and tell them you are going on holiday to a wedding for the week or whatever. They can organise for you to pick up a double payment the next week. The guy in the line in front of me had that done last week. Its a common situation.
