Would any of ye recommend it?

I have a fairly ****e Dell Mo-Sheen and want to install MAC OSX. I don't have a DVD writer, just a portable hard disk. Does anyone know how I would go about installing MAC OSX on my laptop? All google guides are fair old.

No I would not recommend it. If you want to run OS X buy a Mac.

osx is fairly fussy about what hardware it will run on. Also, you are breaking terms of Apple licensing by doing this. If you decide to do it, it's a fairly srteep learning curve and you'll be spending time in the shell configuring drivers/extensions etc. Also, requires cpu and machine with a bit of grunt so you may be disappointed with performance in the end.

If after all that you are keen to see how it can be done, you can find up to date resources and more alternatives than you can shake a stick at if you look hard enough but be prepared to set aside a few days, treat it as a hobby project and, as always, the best way to run OSX is on a Mac.

I would not recommend it in your situation.

You are quite right. I have checked the charter and edited my post there to stay onside.

I've played around with this quite a bit. It's fun for experimenting, but it'll never be 100% usable unless it's on the native hardware - and not really worth the effort tbh.
