Why is Zeitgeist being screened as part of Trinity Week?

This looks totally bizarre. Now it's possible I'm missing something here - perhaps it's meant to be ironic or something - but it seems a bit crazy so I thought I'd throw it out here and see what people think.

Trinity Week is on next week (May 11th-15th). The theme is Energy & Sustainability, so as well as all the usual stuff, such as the announcement of Scholars and Fellows, there's loads of talks and activities on the theme. A lot of them look pretty decent.

However for some reason, Zeitgeist: The Movie is being shown in the Uí Chaidhain on the Monday afternoon. You know, Zeitgeist? The ur-conspiracy theory film to top all conspiracy theory films? The one that claims 9/11 was an inside job?

And then on the Wednesday, The Great Global Warming Swindle is being shown in the Science Gallery. You know, the thing-masquerading-as-a-documentary that was shown on Channel 4 last year, supposedly showing the arguments against global warming but actually turned out to be laughably inaccurate with only passing acquaintance with facts.

It seems so odd. Trying to show the dissenting voices on the issue of sustainability? It's the only thing I can come up with. But why screen these two films which are widely discredited?

    Je suis intrigued.

Don't you know that extreme concern for the environenment and love for extreme conspiracy theories go hand-in-hand? Just look at Rossport!

We are fully into the post-modern era and to watch zeitgeist is a must, to harshly criticize it is our right, but you shuold be happy that there is freedom of speech in your country....
