What do y'all think of it? Today i watched Celtic crusaders play another team who's name escapes me but i found it dreadfully boring, whats with the pass back as soon as they go to ground they get up and roll the ball back with their feet, whats that all about it looks silly, i dont recall seeing a scrum either?

    its called rugby league
alot would say its more demanding than union as there is more hard on tackles!
its defo harder to break through the defense!

That "silly" thing you are reffering to is called playing the ball, go and wiki rugby league and please dont be so ignorant towards a sport you clearley didnt make the effort to learn about.

Were you not also wondering why they always kicked after 5/6 tackles?

There were several scrums today, they're generally uncontested.

Check the board in the above post, wiki Rugby League and check out http://www.rli.ie if you're interested in playing over the summer.

You couldn't have picked a worse game to watch. The Crusaders are dire, they were in my opinion unfairly promoted from RL's 1st div last year (to encourage RL in Wales) and are by some degree the worst team in the competition. It was a training run for the Huddersfield Giants, their opposition....Had you watched Warrington V Hull KR, later on yesterday evening you'd have seen a game that shows you what RL is all about...Essentially you watched the league equivalent of one of those horrible Euro Challenge cup games like Cetransa El Salvador V Saracens...the scoreline is never pretty...

Now if you're going to watch RL, (imo, the toughest, most skillful field sort in the world bar none) you're going to have to approach it with an open mind.First thing you'll need to bear in mind is it's NOT (surprise) rugby union, yep there's an oval ball and its full contact but there the similarities end. Second we've got a different culture and yes (again, surprise!) different rules....

If you familiarise yourself with the basics, the field positions and roles, and THEN have a look I'm sure your perception of the game will be different. Its possible, like me to love both sports with a passion...Approach it with an open mind..give it a go..We've got a weekend of Challenge cup action (the RL FA cup) coming up with some great games in prospect....and the following week some brilliant super league encounters

And should you wish to discuss any further, see you on the RL forum...

I could never quite see how people would find Union a better watch than League.

Having 5 goes at a scrum because it collapses for one reason or another, waiting 5 mins for a ball to come out of a pile of players (Ruck I believe is the correct term). Countless infringements that are hard to fathom, kick to you, kick to me, kick back again , kicking penalties from everywhere.

Rl, to me anyway, seems a much more flowing, fast moving sport.

Saying all that, the Giants can be quite an abrasive team and Crusaders are shot so maybe not a good first game to watch.

I can enjoy watching and playing both games and indeed I have this week.

The rugby union game I played was stop-start and I got my hands on the ball once perhaps twice. I was playing prop and I spent most of the time scrumming or lifting at lineouts. Even as a spectator it wouldn't have been much cop to watch. Contrast that to the Leinster vs Munster match which was a great viewing spectacle.

Rugby League wise I was on the wing and probably took about 10 hit-ups. There were 12 try's scored and it was a good math to watch too. I watched the first half of Leeds vs Dragons and the too was a great match.

I just think its horses for courses. If you don't like Rugby League don't watch it. But as it takes all the basics from Union and has got rid of the boring bits I can't understand how it's possible to like Union and not League. no one really likes watching rucks and scrums other than those who've played the game

Although I was raised watching and playing Rugby League and personally think it is the best team game of all, I would never make critical comparisons between League and Union, as they are two distinct sports. It is comparable to judging GAA Football against Aussie Rules Football.

If you watch League, forget Union rules (apart from the forward pass and knock-on), and learn and appreciate it for it distinct rules and tactics. If you approach it with an open-mind League fans would be happy to explain these to you.
