Ok my old problem of getting flat has re-appeared with a vengence...

Felt I was playing great last week but the last couple of days I was fighting a push or low hook with long irons as it felt like I was swinging around me..

Does anyone have any nice drills to help promote a more upright swing which gives a square attack at the ball???

    Thanks

    Jim

the key jim rests in visualisation
you must visualise your swing while you are standing over the ball
    then let loose
    it works every time

Ohh was trying and playing well in parts but had a few wild shots i.e 9 iron missing green by 20 yds right, Drive pushed about 30 yds a couple of times etc and is not consistant..

Wanna try train the body again on the range as have done no long game practise bar playing this season..

On a bright note all the short game work is showing and saved my bacon today..

    OP,
A tried and tested drill for a more on plane upright swing is to take your setup with your backside touching a wall and from there take the club back as normal and if you touch the wall with your club your doing it wrong.

Not an easy thing to fix yourself - I'd go get a quick lesson.

It may be your posture or maybe your take away.

Standing a couple of inches closer to the ball may help.

if its your take away and / or down swing I always use an excercise that keeps me on right line, assuming your a right handed player and grip the club correctly (not a hurly grip)

grip the club normally then put your right hand down the shaft just under the grip then practice swing as normal, what this does is make you stand taller on the take away, puts your left arm in the correct position for your downswing and gets you turning your upper body correctly taking out a lot of leg/waist turning.

I use it all the time to get my body in correct position before I play and find it a great help, muscle memory has kicked in now and my swing and consistency has improved no end.

    I hope it helps

I had a push in my drives and long iron and it ended up been my hands were to low which result in toe of club putting up.

This is a swing flaw I have always had from my pitch & putt days and it keeps re-appearing..

I had rid again last season after a couple of lessons .. I just haven't been putting any time into the long game so far this season as I know I am dropping 75% of my shots through my short game and am dedicated on fixing it but was worrying seeing myself getting so round yesterday as could feel it on a lot of the longer clubs..

I use to use the one against the wall but had forgotten it so will get back onto that as well as the lower right hand..

    Thanks

    Jim

1Take a few swings on the side of the tee with the (imaginary) ball below your feet. This forces you to swing more upright. If you swing too upright you can take some swings with the ball above your feet.

    Hi Jim,

I also had this problem since beginning golf. To be honest, I found it pretty difficult to change - certainly the most arduous change I've worked on in terms of technique. Not coincidentally, during the time I was working on it years ago, I changed pros for the first time after being with the first guy for years. I went to Brendan McDaid and we used the Explanar and all that malarchy. Anyway, in the heel of the hunt, I finally got it done but I learned two things that I'd suggest to you. 1) It's too technical to do it without a pro and get it right. 2) Use the same guy regulary at short intervals over a short period of time with work yourself in between. So maybe 3 lessons in 3 weeks.

Get it done once and for all and you won't know yourself. I did, and it's great.

I think that sounds what is needed..

Was with Dave Mortimer last summer and found him great so am going to see what kind of deal he will do for me for 4 30 min lessons over 4 weeks..

Yeah, much better than half-doing it over an extended period.

If it works everytime why do you play off 26?
