Goosed My Laptop Screen

I dropped my laptop and the screen is destroyed.
    The laptop was about €600.

Does anyone know if screen replacements are common if even performed at all?
Would it be costly or would I be better off just buying a new one?
Would I have to go straight back to the maker (DELL).

    Thanks

Give adverts a look, you might get lucky. Or ebay might get you one, just probably best to keep away from Hong Kong ones (no experience but you cant be too careful).

They're easy enough replaced too. Im guessing yours is a similar situation to mine, remove the rubber pads from the corners of the screen. There might be 2 in the top middle also. The youll have to remove the bezel (plastic surround). I find using an ID card or something like that works a charm. Unclip the bezel and that will show the screws for the screen, they might be on the side. On the back of the LCD there should be a ribbon cable, unclip that, and there'll probably be some other connector cable too, unclip that also. Do the opposite to replace it.

You might be able to find guides online, or on youtube sometimes. What laptop is it by the way?

Guessing here, But ya spent €600 on the laptop. Most €600 laptops from Dell have a 15.4" screen. Ya should be able to get a replacement supplied and fitted for under €200.

Ebay is the best bet for DIY job. Ya probably looking at €100 or so. Easy enough job as pointed out.

    Don't go back to Dell.

Black Knight, it's an inspiron 1525.
I don't think I'd be confident with the Diy angle, but I'll look into it.
    Thanks folks.

I had mine done a couple of months ago and it seems fine since. Try compuworld in Dun Laoghaire - www.compuworld.ie. They charged me €200 for my Dell with a shiny screen.

Id do it for ya FOC if you got the parts replacement LCD, but I am in athlone/Galway im probably no good to ya.
Ebay shows a load of LCDs for ~£90 posted

    Link 1

    Link 2

Both give instructions on how to remove (and consiquently replace) your screen (Link 2 has better instructions IMO)! You could probably do it yourself the really!

Careful, if you type "help" and "dell" into google, you'll break the internet!
