    Hi,

Bought a car off my parents few months ago, it's registered 2005 (start of) and is now registered to me. Looked up citizens advice.. it says all car over 4 years need a NCT. So its 4 years 5 months? Does it mean I need to get NCT, or will need to get next Jan?

    cheers

You need a test when car is 4 years old. So if registered in say may, it is due a test in may. i.e. as soon as 4 years old. Also. if you delay getting a test, you dont gain as it always falls due on the original registration date.
It is also up to you to get it done. You will not get any notification.

I wouldnt drive it at the moment (if its more than 4yrs old and NCT is needed - and not already booked - you could face 5penalty points, and up to €1500 fine in court.)

Gardai are doing checkpoints especially over the bank holiday weekend (seen 5 cars pulled over earlier today (dont know what for exactly) - but each car with gardai taking details)

the new law came into force on 1 May ....be careful ...you have been warned.

You can check through the online booking on the NCT website:

    www.nct.ie

All you need is the car's reg number and the date it was first registered (on the Vehicle Registration Cert).

yes, found the registration date, 12/04, so I'm 3 weeks overdue. I checked out the online booking, but it looks like they're all booked up until mid june, after which they have N/A.

Even tried centers down the country, I'm hoping it's because they're online booking is broken.

BTW the only reason Im in for a retest is one failed dim bulb which was fine when I left the house......What Timing:rolleyes:

Tried Nenagh too, seems to be booked out also. Might be a site error, or maybe they are all booked out everywhere :-( I'll ring tomorrow.
