And by that I mean the Pomodoro sculptuer

    Apparently it's spinning again!

Let's all show our appreciation for the Pomodoro sculpture in this thread.

Well I'm sure you don't mind that I cleared up the title of the thread slightly.

It is awful when people are purposefully misled.

    Especially when its not original.

I think they ruined it with all these "do not climb" and all those hideous anti skateboarding metal edges they have sticking all out of it. I don't think the damage done by any amount of "climbing" could ever be as damaging to the aesthetic qaulities of the sculpture as these new modifications have been. I even find it repulsive to look at (well maybe not "repulsive") these days. The ironing!

Did you lie down on the ground for that photo?

What am i missing here?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,163 ✭✭✭✭Boston

The reflection in the ball. You can clearly see a guy lying on the ground.

I saw the dude alright, but he could have been sitting and leaning back. Thats why I asked in the first place.

I thought there was something blatently obvious that I was missing.

    Sat down ;)

Though with my new lens don't have to muddy my trousers anymore :D

And I'll have to take another photo of the "cleaned up" spinning ball.

edit: Oh and as a tip if you really have to lie down face flat on the ground - bring a binliner as a cover.

It was spinning yesterday, I took a video of it. I'll post it in a little while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,536 ✭✭✭Mark200

I saw it spinning today and then later in the day not spinning. Do you have to push it or does it just spin by itself?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,488 ✭✭✭mathew

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,523 ✭✭✭ApeXaviour

That's seriously lame. Is it not supposed to be motorised?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

It should be, man, it should be.

You're not all that bad at taking photos (I've looked though your trinity archive.)

Saw it this morning, it wasn't spinning, then some guy tentatively walked up to it and gave it a little push....

My guess is, that if you have to go up to it and push it to make it spin, you probably should not be pushing it. Not that it would do any harm or anything, but I could imagine a security coming at you, waving a rolling-pin, screaming to get away from the sculpture...

Anyone know if they plan motorizing it anytime soon?

We could always just build a motor ourselves....

I'm not sure. This appears to show someone doing it in an official capacity:

Ohh... But I somehow doubt the fun police would let you do it just cause "there's a photo of someone doing it online and the Provost is there"..

I'd say she was thrilled at the idea of having to give a demo for all present.

She probably did it when everyone turned away. Looks like she's preparing to run as she's pushing it!

Someone should stick a "spin me" sticker on it or something. At least then if you get caught spinning it when you aren't supposed to, you can just blame the sticker.

    It's quite difficult to push...

Don't be absurd. I'm sure Boston is an outstanding gentleman. I was merely praising him for his post - is intelligence now considered an insult on boards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,297 ✭✭✭Ron DMC

This video is what happens. Well actually this is while it's slowing down a while after being pushed.
