Errr...Tyre Sizes

    Hi,

I'm trying to change my mtb tyres to road tyres. Other Board members have recommended that I try Continental Ultra Gator Skin/Continental Sport Contact & Continental Grand Prix. :D

My MTB has 26 x 2.10 on the tyres..I am 'assuming' this means its 26inches in diameter and 2.10 inches wide.

But the sizes on Chain Reaction/Wiggle & Evans Cycles 'seem' to be working in MM's.

Now comes the newbie question..I'm wondering which sized tyre to get? I think I'm going for the wired version.(According to Harris Cyclery I should get 559mm tyre)

    Do I get the 650 x 23c / 700 x 23c / 700 x 25c or 700 x 28c ? ? ?

I really am confused..so I apologise now if this is a really daft question, I just don't want to get the wrong size. :o

you need a 26" tyre - simple as that - you're looking in the wrong section on CRC:

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=18801

    other MTB tyres here:

    look for slicks

No, you need to get slicks in a 26x format- MTB tyres are sized in inches while road diameter tyres are metric.

When looking for slicks for a MTB they will still be listed under "MTB tyre", not "road tyre" - here are the Sport Contact and Sport Contact Reflex (I don't know what the difference is, maybe go for the latter as it is the same price?)

Yeah, generally the mtb system is 26 X (tyre width in inches) and road is 700C x (tyre width in mm).

There's a few mtb ones out there with slightly odd sizes, like those conti grand prix ones, that have both 26x1 and 25-559. The second lot is just a different nomencalture that puts the width in mm first and the second is to do with the seating width of the tyre in the rim (it's an american thing) - but so long as the rim is 17mm wide or less you shouldn't have a problem with tyres like this
